On Tuesday, December 3, Lil Durk's co-defendant, Kavon London Grant, reportedly sought a protective order in federal court. According to his legal team, unsupervised access to sensitive information might prove to be detrimental for witnesses, victims, and defendants.
As reported by AllHipHop, Grant’s attorney, Peter C. Swarth, said:
"This case involves significant safety concerns regarding disclosure of names and personal identifying information of victims, witnesses, and defendants."
Swarth further suggested that there should be sufficient regulation to control who would get access to this information.
The evidence in the case reportedly included several sensitive elements like the crime scene photographs, autopsy reports, and statements from protected witnesses. Prosecutors alleged that disclosure of these might lead to intimidation.
The legal proceedings are related to the 2022 killing of Lul Pab, who was also a cousin of Quando Rondo. According to Los Angeles federal court records, Lil Durk has been arrested and charged with Pab's murder. He, however, had pleaded not guilty to the charges. Forbes reported that his trial is set to begin on January 7, 2025.
After his arrest, Durk was charged with conspiracy to use interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire, resulting in death. Later, he was indicted on more charges, including conspiracy, carrying and using firearms, including a machine gun, and possession of firearms in a crime that resulted in death.
Lil Durk has been considered the lead defendant in the case, while five co-defendants are also related to it
Five co-defendants have been involved in the case, apart from the main one, which is rapper Lil Durk. According to prosecutors, the five co-defendants allegedly had some connection with Durk's Only The Family rap collective. The court has reportedly stated that if Durk and/or the defendants are convicted, they might receive "a statutory maximum sentence of life in federal prison."
As per Forbes, FBI agent Sarah Corcoran stated in an affidavit that Durk had placed a bounty on Rondo's life. However, Quando Rondo was left unharmed during the shooting, while Pab was allegedly killed in it.
USA Today had previously claimed that a detention hearing had been scheduled for December 12, 2024, weeks before the set trial date. For those unaware, authorities took Lil Durk into custody on October 17, 2024, near Miami International Airport. It was claimed that he was allegedly planning on leaving the country.
His arrest sparked reactions all across. One of the most popular ones happened to have come from social media influencer Charleston White. In October, White seemed to be celebrating Durk's arrest. However, Durk's fans supported him and called for his release.
About a month after the arrest, many flooded social media with trends urging that the rapper should be released soon. As for the recent request for a protective order made by the co-defendant of Lil Durk, no further details or updates have been made available.
