Lil Yachty recently released the music video for We Ball Forever, which has sparked controversy after fellow artist Curtis Williams accused him of copying the concept from a video Williams had shared on Instagram. Williams publicly called out Yachty, claiming that the rapper took creative inspiration from his work without acknowledgement.
Posting the comparison on Instagram stories on October 20, 2021, Curtis wrote:
“LMAO COME ONE NOW.”
He also dropped a couple of crying faces emojis on Yachty's Instagram page promoting the music video. However, the rapper has not yet responded to the accusation by Williams.
Lil Yachty released three new songs on Sunday, October 20, 2024, namely, Cry Me a River, All Around the World, and We Ball Forever.
Other controversies of Lil Yachty explored
Lil Yachty found himself in hot water after he released the music video of his recent song, We Ball Forever. However, this isn't the first time he has faced accusations of stealing creative work.
Earlier this year, in March, streamer Kai Cenat previewed one of Yachty's unreleased tracks during a live stream, which also led to allegations of uncredited inspiration from other artists. This gave birth to the speculation that the rapper had supposedly used Playboi Carti’s rhyme scheme. However, Lil Yachty was quick to respond to the allegations at the time, as he wrote on X, stating:
"Biting him? How did I bite him. If that's the case I been workin with cardio since 2019-2020 on record y'all fans be smoking the strongest d**k."
He was then involved in another controversy in August of this year, after an artist, Karrahbooo, accused Yachty of bullying her and firing her from the group. He responded to the allegations during an Instagram live and claimed:
“You don’t even do nothing! I wrote every f*cking verse you’ve done. I dressed you. I gave you that chrome Rolex. You were waiting tables! I changed your motherf*cking life! And you on here lying talking about some ‘we bully you’? That sh*t got me f*cked up, bruh. I wrote that f*cking verse when we went on On the Radar.”
He continued:
“I put you last on purpose so everyone would say, ‘Who the f*ck is that girl?’ … I got the f*cking reference.”
Lil Yachty, whose real name is Miles Parks McCollum, started his musical journey in 2015 and gained recognition for his song, One Night. Thereafter, in 2017, he released his first studio album, Teenage Emotions, and in the following years, the artist released other popular albums like Lil Boat 2, Nuthin’ 2 Prove, Lil Boat 3, and Let’s Start Here.
He has been nominated for many prestigious awards, including the Billboard Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and iHeartRadio Music Awards. The artist has even been nominated for Grammy Awards twice for his songs, Broccoli and Donda.
