In a surprising move that has sparked widespread online chatter, Canadian rapper Drake has banned any merchandise linked to fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar and his creative collective pgLang from being sold or displayed at his Australian tour stops.
On January 20, 2025, a user @cloudkingxx on X shared a screenshot of the policies and precautions issued for Drizzy's Australia tour, in which it was explicitly mentioned that merchants are not allowed.
As a result, many users on X responded to the decision, sparking a wave of online reactions. Numerous users mocked the situation and expressed their disbelief —
"LMFAOO ohhhh Karen Graham," one commented.
Moreover, several users on X suggested that Drake might ban anyone who mentions fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar during the tour. Others hinted that the rapper is living “rent-free” in their minds —
"Drake bouta ban anyone named Kendrick from going. 😂," a user on X commented.
"Another day and y’all got Drake living rent free in your head," one more commented.
"Drake, if he sees a dodgers hat in the crowd," a third wrote.
Furthermore, some users on X suggested that fans of the Canadian rapper would still believe they are unbothered. Others pointed out that the rapper is likely to perform spectacularly, questioning the importance of the merchandise issue —
"Drake fans will still try to convince you he’s unbothered lmao," a netizen commented.
"But he was gonna go to LA with all his ice? Remember.....muf*cka? He said he'd be rockin every f*ckin chain he owned next visit...right? So who cares about some pglang merch down under?" another wrote.
"He thinks it’s all a game and that everybody slow. I admit, his fans are. But we know from things he’s done in the past and even now that he’s not scared. He’s just angry and doesn’t care to see their merch," one more user commented.
As of now, neither the Canadian rapper nor anyone from his team has responded to the online reactions.
Drake allegedly prohibits pgLang merchandise at Australian performances
On Monday, January 20, 2025, documents surfaced on the internet showing a restrictions memo for the arena during Drake's tour in Australia.
The document suggests that clothing, hats, or any items associated with Kendrick Lamar or his merchandise are banned from entering the arena. The specific point reads as follows —
"Clothing, hats, or any items associated with Kendrick Lamar's brand. Inclusive of any merch acquired during Kendrick Lamar's previous tours is a no-go. Please view next page displaying some of the merchandise mentioned," the statement read.
The ban appears to stem from the infamous rap battle between the two artists, which escalated in March 2024 and concluded in May 2024. This feud led to both artists accusing each other in diss tracks and exchanging harsh words.
Additionally, in late December 2024, the Canadian rapper lodged a pre-action complaint against Kendrick Lamar's song Not Like Us, one of Lamar's diss tracks during the feud.
The complaint was directed at UMG, and in early January 2025, a full-fledged lawsuit was filed in New York against the record label for distributing the song, which allegedly accused the Canadian rapper of unlawful activities.
The authenticity of the documents and the ban's specifics have yet to be verified by the Canadian rapper or his team. Lamar has also not commented on the matter.
