Gillie Da Kid put up a video billboard in New York City to commemorate the 1st anniversary of his son YNG Cheese's death. On July 20, 2024, the rapper took to Instagram to share the tribute honoring his son with the caption:
“Long Live Cheese. Miss u kid #WeGotChase.”
The billboard showed a collage of YNG Cheese, whose real name is Devin Spady, with snapshots from his childhood and his career as a rapper. The video ended with a short message that read, "1998 - 2023. Crushed us forever."
YNG Cheese, aged 25, was reportedly killed in a triple shooting in Philadelphia on July 20, 2023.
Gillie Da Kid shared a heartfelt homage to his son a week after his death
According to Hip Hop DX, Gillie Da Kid's son, YNG Cheese, died due to a triple shooting at the 5800 block of Mascher Street in the Olney neighborhood, Philadelphia, at around 8.24 pm on July 20, 2023. Cheese suffered a gunshot wound in his back. He was taken to a hospital, where he reportedly died at 8.39 pm.
Two other people, a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old man, were also injured in the shooting, but they were said to be in stable condition. It is unclear who shot at the upcoming rapper. No arrests were made at the time, and no weapon was found. There have been no updates regarding the case at the time of this article.
Gillie Da Kid, whose real name is Nasir Fard, broke his silence one week after his son's death, posting a heartfelt tribute to him on his social media profiles along with a picture of the young rapper.
"I Miss u like $**t Dev My heart will forever have a Black hole in it but u know ur father gotta be strong to hold the family up . Thanks 4 all the support from family, friends , and all of my followers y’all really helping me get thru these ruff times Me and my family appreciate and love y’all," Gillie Da Kid wrote.
YNG Cheese was laid to rest on July 24, 2023, followed by a funeral service at The Met in Philadelphia. The 25-year-old rapper is survived by his son Chase.
