Rapper Cam'ron dressed up as the American football player OJ Simpson for a Fourth of July costume party in Las Vegas. He wore a complete US football uniform with a helmet and Simpson's name and the number 32 on the back of his blue shirt. Cam'ron shared a video of him in the uniform on his Instagram on July 4, with the caption saying:

"OJ was here!!!! Happy INDEPENDENCE DAY! This ain’t really Our holiday.. But it Feels good not to have to answer to nobody!!

Some fans found the rapper's costume amusing and took to X to share their thoughts about the same.

"OJ was family to Cam." a fan said.
"Me getting ready to play in the adult league," another user stated.
"Gotta show love to our brother OJ Simpson. BLACK POWER" another individual said.

Some fans also noticed little details and made observations about Cam'ron's costume, while others suggested some changes he could have incorporated.

"Ok, that made my day. Now, All we need is to have Giancarlo Esposito to dress up as Johnnie Cochran next to him, and it would be completed." a fan commented.
"He's got the shoulder pads on too," a user noticed.
"He should’ve been carrying the knife instead of the football." an individual suggested.
"He needs to be running and jumping over trash cans." a user added.

Orenthal James Simpson, better known as OJ Simpson, was a well-known professional American football player who represented the NFL team Buffalo Bills for most of his career. Simpson played in the league for 11 seasons.

His trial for the alleged murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994 stirred controversy across the United States. Simpson's trial resulted in his acquittal of the alleged crimes.

Cam'ron once revealed that he considered OJ Simpson as a "real uncle"

Cam'ron and OJ Simpson shared a close relationship during the latter's lifetime, with the NFL player appearing on the rapper's podcast, It Is What It Is multiple times. Simpson used to make appearances on the Cam'ron and Mase's podcast and share his opinion on sports and other topics.

Following Simpson's death in April 2024, Cam'ron and Mase shared their feelings on an episode of their podcast. Cam called Simpson a "real uncle", admitting how he considered the NFL icon as his family member.

"I just wanna say it was great working with OJ. He’ll truly be missed and I love him like a real, real uncle so I’m really sorry this [his death] happened. At the end of the day, I’m glad that we did get to spend the last few months with him."

Meanwhile, Cam'ron's podcast partner Mase echoed the rapper's thoughts and revealed he was looking forward to working with OJ Simpson in the next season. He said in the same episode,

"For me, it’s a real surreal moment because I definitely was looking forward to O.J. next season. I had a lot of great ideas that I was talking with Cam'ron about earlier in the year about other shows that we were gonna do with O.J. Simpson, so this is a real touching moment for me."

The rapper duo faced some controversy for inviting OJ Simpson on their podcast despite his controversial past. However, Cam'ron believed in Simpson's innocence and mentioned that he would not have him on his podcast if he were proven guilty in an interview with Complex.

The rapper believed much of the controversy faced by Simpson was because of his race, hinting that a white man would not face the backlash. He told Complex,

"Look, if he was guilty we wouldn’t have him on the show. Y’all want to keep convicting an innocent man. He’s innocent. If it was somebody else whiter, y’all would say 'oh he’s innocent."

Many consider Simpson's trial as a defining moment in the history of the United States, while others highlight the alleged racism among the police in his treatment.
