On January 6, 2025, Billboard uploaded its annual Grammy predictions for the main categories, projecting Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us to win Record Of The Year. The predictions were released just a month before the music award event, scheduled for February 2.

Billboard also predicted that Beyoncé would take home her first Album of the Year award for Cowboy Carter. Meanwhile, Chappell Roan is projected to win Best New Artist, while Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas are expected to win Song of the Year for Birds of a Feather. Not Like Us is also nominated for Song of the Year.

The news of Kendrick Lamar's anticipated Record of the Year win for his popular Drake diss track was met with mixed reviews. One netizen joked about how the Canadian rapper might react to the projection, referencing his current petitions against Universal Music Group and Spotify.

"Looks like Aubrey is going to sue the Grammy’s now," an X user commented.

Many expressed happiness for Kendrick Lamar regarding his expected win, calling him a "well-deserved contender." Others claimed they were sure Not Like Us would win, adding there was no reason for Lamar to lose.

"Big moment for Kendrick! A well deserved contender," one person tweeted.
"I mean why wouldn’t it," another user added.
"I’d honestly be shocked if it doesn’t win," someone else commented.
"That would be undisputed diss record ever if he wins a Grammy and perform on SuperBowl," another person posted.

However, several netizens were not so optimistic, mentioning other songs they believed deserved the win.

"No disrespect to Kendrick, but I think Shaboozey is more deserving if we r being honest," one user commented.
"This is Billie's Award. 'Birds of a Feather' will most likely take it. Kendrick will win mostly in the rap categories," another user added.
"This would be epic it deserve too but I’m not gone get my hopes up. They don’t usually give hiphop artists Record of the year," someone else wrote.
"Didn’t A Bar song stay #1 for like 20 weeks straight?" another person tweeted.

Kendrick Lamar received seven Grammy nominations

Kendrick Lamar received a total of seven nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards - five for Not Like Us and two for Like That, in collaboration with Metro Boomin and Future. The former was also nominated for Best Rap Song and Best Music Video.

Not Like Us was released in May as the penultimate song during Kendrick Lamar's 2024 rap beef with Drake. Produced by DJ Mustard, the song became an instant hit, breaking records and dominating Billboard charts. It also featured Lamar volleying several severe allegations against Drake, dubbing him a p*dophile and colonizer.

Kendrick Lamar performed Not Like Us for the first time during his Juneteenth pop-out show in Inglewood. He performed the track five times in a row, bringing other rappers and celebrities to join him on stage.

The track's music video was released on July 4 and included cameos from Lamar's TDE associates, NBA star DeMar DeRozan, his partner Whitney Alford, and their two children.

In November 2024, Drake courted controversy after filing petitions against UMG, iHeartRadio, and Spotify for allegedly colluding to "artificially inflate" Not Like Us's streaming numbers using bots. He also claimed UMG defamed him by allowing Lamar to publicly accuse him of being a p*dophile in the song.

In other news, Kendrick Lamar is set to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in February.
