Machine Gun Kelly recently opened up about his late father's troubling past, saying that his dad was on trial for his own father's murder at the age of nine.
During an appearance on the August 5 episode of the Dumb Blonde podcast with Bunnie Xo, the American rapper and singer-songwriter recounted his late dad's childhood. He described how both his dad and his grandmother were tried for the murder of the family patriarch, adding:
"The story that was always told me was that their dad dropped the gun and his head essentially blew off."
At the time, the rapper's father, who was nine years old, was present in the room during the incident and was suspected of killing his own father. Both he and his mother were put on trial but were later acquitted.
MGK's father passed away in 2019, coinciding with the first anniversary of the release of his album Hotel Diablo. The musician shared the news on social media, stating that he "should've told him that he loved him years ago."
Machine Gun Kelly recalls his late father's trauma after the incident
On the podcast, Machine Gun Kelly shared about what it was like to live with his father, who clearly got shaken by what happened to him when he was nine years old. He mentioned resenting his dad when he was still young because he would "freak out" whenever he heard a loud "boom" or any "loud noise." Not knowing about his father's trauma at the time, he said:
"I would be like, 'You're supposed to be a man, dude. Why are you acting like this?' And it just made me hate him."
However, the Burning Memories singer now understands what his father was going through at the time, considering his past, saying:
"In my situation with my father, he was so tormented from some of the most insane sh*t that I can imagine a kid can go through that he had to figure out, but with almost every possible bad circumstance going against him, too."
Machine Gun Kelly first opened up about his father's horrifying childhood experience of watching his own father bleed out on the floor and die in front of him in his 2022 Life in Pink documentary.
During the podcast, Machine Gun Kelly also recalled an interesting conversation with his father when he was on his deathbed about being tried for his own father's murder when he was still a kid.
The rapper, who just celebrated a year of being sober, extended some grace to his father, who had to navigate a rough childhood, saying that expectations were so high when his dad became a parent. He talked about his own bias, saying that he looked up at his parents, thinking they knew everything, but MGK added, "We're all just lost and trying to figure it out."
