Colson Baker, an American rapper popularly known by his stage name Machine Gun Kelly, recently disclosed that his 15-year-old daughter, Casie, inspired him to get sober. While recently being a guest on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Kelly shared that one day, his daughter said something that made him realize that he needed to stop using drugs.

“It began with my daughter telling me: ‘Dad, you know I can tell when you’re high?' It broke my heart."

Machine Gun Kelly credits his daughter Casie for year of sobriety

Machine Gun Kelly appeared on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast on Sunday, 18 August. When asked about his year of sobriety, he mentioned that his daughter played a key role in his decision to get sober.

“It hurt my heart, it was like the biggest disappointment, ” he continued on the podcast.

Machine Gun Kelly went on to say that his daughter was only 11 or 12 at the time. Even though the impact of Casie's words was profound, Kelly admitted that overcoming his addiction was not immediate.

"It took me a while afterward, because obviously drugs have a vice grip on you," he said.

The realization that he needed to change was also motivated by a desire to break what he describes as a “generational curse.”

He continued, "That was step one for me. As a father and as a man, to be the father I wish my dad would have been, I have to break this generational curse for my kid."

Earlier this month, in an episode of Dumb Blonde hosted by Bunnie Xo, Machine Gun Kelly disclosed that he has been free from alcohol for one year.

"I don't drink anymore. I haven't drank since last August," he said. "That was my first time I ever went to rehab."

This period of sobriety began with his first stint in rehab, which he acknowledged was a crucial step in addressing his substance abuse issues. Machine Gun Kelly also mentioned that he abused marijuana and pills in the past.

He also posted a message on Instagram for her daughter on her 15th birthday. The post consisted of photos dedicated to Casie and her life, from childhood to recent activities, with photos from basketball games she attended to beach outings with her father.

Apart from his daughter, he has also thanked his on-off girlfriend Megan Fox for support during his recovery. He described her as “extremely helpful” during the psychological challenges of withdrawal and rehab.

When asked about his experiences of being sober for one year, the progress, and the struggles that he had to go through, this is what he had to say:

“I continue to embrace that this journey is gonna be hard for me, but I accept it and forgive myself,” Machine Gun Kelly shared on the “Dumb Blonde” podcast earlier this month.

MGK welcomed his daughter Casie in 2009 with his ex Emma Cannon and has maintained a strong relationship with her, frequently bringing her along on tours and to award shows.
