American singer-songwriter Maren Morris came out as bisexual, just last month, through an Instagram post. On July 30, she took to her Instagram story and shared a photo of herself in a black T-shirt with the words "Queer Since Birth" on it.
The words are present in the middle of a gold and red-colored circle design with stars and an eagle. This photo came up on the Instagram stories after she posted a photo of her and her team watching the US women's gymnastics team who had earned the gold medal in the 2024 Olympics.
For the unversed, the 34-year-old singer was married to country music singer Ryan Hurd. The marriage reportedly happened in 2018 and lasted till 2023, when she filed for a divorce. Although Maren Morris came out recently, she had been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights for a long time.
On June 9, 2024, she posted pictures of herself holding Pride flags in the middle of her RSVP Redux Tour stop in Phoenix. In the caption of the post, she wrote,
"Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+. Happy Pride"
Exploring singer Maren Morris' relationship timeline until coming out as a bisexual
My Church singer Maren Morris first met her former husband, Ryan Hurd, back in 2013. They, however, didn't start having a romantic relationship until a few years passed by. In an article published in February 2024, PEOPLE reported a statement by Morris, who once recalled her first meeting with Hurd. He said,
"We were both at different publishing companies, and our publishers' job is to fill our calendars up, so they just randomly put us together on a write one day."
The outlet further added that Morris and Hurd began dating in December 2015. Morris then revealed that while they were friends for a long time, there was always chemistry between them. In 2016, they made their first red carpet-debut at the CMT Music Awards. A year later, the former couple announced their engagement as well. She even shared a few photos on Instagram flaunting her ring.
They tied the knot in March 2018, in Nashville. In 2019, in an interview with Esquire, Morris shared details about her relationship with her then-husband. She added that the toughest phase of her marriage with Ryan Hurd was when she was on a tour with Niall Horan in 2018. She explained,
"It was more international touring than I had ever done. And I was gone more than I had ever been on any other tour..."
In March 2020, the former couple welcomed their son Hayes. They further released a track titled Chasing After You, which featured both Morris and Hurd. This song got a Grammy nomination as well, back in 2022. In October 2023, Maren Morris filed for divorce based on "irreconcilable differences." The divorce was finalized by the end of January 2024, as reported by PEOPLE.
Then recently, the singer came out as bisexual while she was in the middle of her current tour. In May 2023, in her acceptance speech at the GLAAD Awards, she explained she was an LGBTQ+ ally. In the speech, she further mentioned how included she felt in the community since her childhood.
Morris had recently taken to Instagram to talk about her upcoming music project
Maren Morris spoke about her upcoming EP Intermission. In a recently uploaded Instagram post on July 29, she shared why she named the EP that way. Morris addressed her audience and said,
"Calling this project Intermission was intentional. It’s a break in the act, and for me, it’s definitely an act break and new chapter of my life, and I’m so ready to see what’s on the other page."
The EP is to be released on August 1, 2024. According to Maren Morris, the lead single of the project featured Julia Michaels. She continued,
"It's a break in the act, and for me, it's definitely an act break and new chapter of my life, and I'm so ready to see what's on the other page. I just am so proud of this music. It wasn't easy to write because I'm going through a lot, and this is the diary of that."
This project was marked as the first one since she signed the divorce with her former husband, Ryan Hurd. The latest single of the EP, I Hope I Never Fall in Love, was reportedly Morris expressing her wish to be single.
Meanwhile, she also conducted a tour titled the RSVP Redux Tour, which had its first show on May 29, in San Francisco. The tour had 11 stops across several cities in the US. The tour concluded on July 31 with its last show at Sandpoint.
