Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega appear together in Taste music video
Singer Sabrina Carpenter recently launched the music video for Taste, featuring Jenna Ortega. The gore and murder-themed video opened with a "graphic violence” warning and Carpenter singing a lullaby:
“Rock-a-bye baby, snug in your bed/ Right now you are sleeping, and soon you’ll be dead.”
In the video, she then used a blade to break into her ex-boyfriend's house and kill his new lover, Jenna Ortega, before learning that the Wednesday actress had placed a dummy in the bed. As Ortega leaped out of hiding and began shooting at her with a rifle, Sabrina Carpenter fell out of the second-story window and got impaled on the fence below.
This set off a graphic battle between the two women, involving voodoo dolls, hospital defibrillators, and Ortega setting Carpenter on fire and chopping off Carpenter's arm when the latter attacked the former and her unidentified boyfriend in the shower. However, they kept returning from the dead.
Carpenter hinted at the song's meaning before the music video dropped, saying that she was warning her ex-partner about her enduring presence. The lyrics include:
“I heard you’re back together and if that’s true/ You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you. If you want forever, I bet you do/ Just know you’ll taste me too.”
Sabrina Carpenter and Ortega's mutual love interest died when things got too serious, but their grief didn't last long. The girls realize that they were better off as friends than as enemies during their late love's burial.
They left the funeral together, realizing how perfect they were for each other. The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice actress lamented about her lover-turned-murder victim, calling him “Very insecure.” Carpenter joked back, "Very insecure! You kill me.”
Upon its release, the video went viral, amassing 2,072,988 views and 392K likes from fans at the time of writing. Moreover, in an August 21 interview with Paper magazine, Sabrina Carpenter reassured listeners that her new record has something to offer all kinds of fans.
“If your favorite song is ‘Espresso,’ then you’ll have another song that you love. And if your favorite song is ‘Please, Please, Please,’ you’ll have another song that you love. And if you hate both of those songs, then listen to a different album,” she said.
She further added:
“I’m grateful for the people for tuning in, whether it be 10 years ago, five years ago, yesterday or tomorrow, in two years. There’s definitely some people that are still not tuned in. I plan on tuning them in.”
Jenna Ortega hasn’t made any comments on the music video yet.
