"Never imagined One Direction's reunion would happen at funeral": 1D Fans left distraught in wake of Liam Payne's untimely death

Fans of the One Direction boy band took to social media to express sadness over the demise of singer Liam Payne. The musician tragically passed away on October 16 after falling off of the CasaSur Buenos Aires Hotel's balcony.

Law enforcement revealed that an employee from the hotel called them as they needed assistance with a guest, who has since been presumed to be Payne. The employee claimed that the guest was an “aggressive” male who was destroying furniture in the lobby and eventually had to be escorted back into his room.

Pablo Policicchio, the communications director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, said in a statement to the Associated Press that the singer “had jumped from the balcony of his room,” with emergency responders arriving at the hotel around 5 p.m.

An autopsy is yet to be conducted.

Fans of the One Direction band were overwhelmed with sadness at hearing the news. Many could not fathom that the singer had passed away.

Liam Payne was holidaying in Argentina with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, and the duo attended Nial Horan’s concert in the country as well. Cassidy departed on October 14, leading to Payne booking himself into the hotel.

“Seeing all of the 1d fans logging into their old/inactive stan accounts just to pay their respects to Liam is oddly touching. One direction has an insane legacy when it comes to twitter,” an X user said.

“People aren’t only mourning Liam, they are mourning one direction, the memories, the experiences, a part of their childhood,” a platform user commented.

Liam Payne and his girlfriend were actively sharing content from their Argentina vacation on social media just hours before the former’s passing.

“The fact that liam payne last social media post is a one direction post, im sobbing,” an internet user said.
“like this isnt just the loss of liam payne, this is the loss of one direction like it will never be the same again nothing will ever be the same again,” an X user said.

Liam Payne was embroiled in a lawsuit before his passing

The British artist was in the midst of a lawsuit just days before his death. His ex-fiancee Maya Henry issued a cease-and-desist order against the singer as she accused him of stalking. She stated in the lawsuit that she wanted Payne to stop contacting her family and friends.

Maya Henry opened up about the same in an October 6 TikTok video, where she alleged, “Ever since we broke up, he messages me, will blow up my phone.”

Maya Henry also shared that Liam Payne’s friends pleaded with her to not write her fictional book Moving Forward, which was inspired by her relationship with the singer, as it would affect his mental health. In the book, Henry discusses her traumatic abortion experience and other personal anecdotes.

Payne suffered from an alcohol and prescription drug addiction following the breakup of One Direction. He also once revealed in an interview that while touring with the band, he hit the rock bottom of battling “suicidal ideation.”

Liam Payne is survived by his seven year old son, Bear, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.
