Nick Carter has officially responded to Melissa Schuman's sexual assault lawsuit with a counterclaim denying the accusations. In a complaint filed on July 26 in the Superior Court of California, the Backstreet Boys singer has asked for $2.5 million in damages, claiming that Schuman made false claims and defamed him.

The complaint alleges that Schuman “publicly acknowledges her dwindling career and thirst for internet relevance,” referring to her 2014 YouTube video titled “I need to become important on the internet.”

Nick mentioned in his complaint that Schuman made all of the statements "with a specific intent to damage Carter's reputation and interfere with his business opportunities, advantages, and contracts.” He argued that none of Melissa Schuman’s points “state facts.”

The countersuit claims:

"Schuman’s actions were intentional, malicious, oppressive and designed specifically to damage Carter’s contractual relationships and prospective economic advantages and opportunities."

Nick also mentioned in his lawsuit that "Schuman's plot to smear Carter's image" has caused "emotional distress" for his wife, Lauren Kitt Carter, and their three children.

The whole fiasco happened in April 2023, when Melissa Schuman filed a lawsuit against Nick, alleging that he r*ped her in 2002 in Santa Monica when she was just 18. In her complaint, the Dream singer claimed that Nick Carter took her away from the group and assaulted her even though she repeatedly asked him to stop.

Melissa Schuman claimed in her lawsuit that Nick Carter sexually assaulted her after giving her sedatives

Melissa Schuman first talked about Nick Carter assaulting her in her blog. She claimed that he spiked her drink and then s*xually abused her in the bathroom. She alleged that she told Nick that she was a virgin and was “saving herself for her future husband,” but the Backstreet Boys singer was not ready to listen.

“My abuser was and still is, in a very well-known boyband. My label informed me that this person’s rep had reached out to them and he had shown romantic interest in me and would like to set up a chat over the phone,” she said.

Repeatedly calling Nick her abuser, Melissa stated how Nick Carter gave her a drink, and the duo started playing video games. The Dream member stated that Nick forcefully took her to the bathroom and r*ped her, even though Melissa claimed to have asked Carter to stop many times, however, she exclaimed that he did not listen to her.

After accusing him of s*xual assault in her blog, Melissa then spoke about the incident in many interviews. However, now Nick Carter’s counter complaint states that Schuman constantly made defamatory statements against him, and called him a “r*pist,” in a documentary, press conferences, and interviews after she accused him of the same in her blog.

However, Nick Carter now argues that Schuman filed a lawsuit with “her made up version” of what had happened that day. He also claimed that Melissa and her father hired people to defame him, and to make their case stronger.
