Old and now-deleted tweets of late drummer Bob Bryar have resurfaced online in light of his passing. The former My Chemical Romance instrumentalist was found inside his Tennessee home on Tuesday, November 26, after being last seen alive on November 4. Netizens have since taken to social media to discuss his earlier social media activity.
Trigger Warning: The following article includes transphobic remarks. Reader’s discretion is advised.
TMZ exclusively reported that foul play was not suspected in Bob Bryar’s death. A medical examiner has yet to disclose the exact cause of death. His body was discovered at his residence when Animal Control visited his home to take away his two dogs.
As fans of the legendary rock band mourn the loss of the drummer, others took to X to discuss his old tweets. In a now-deleted tweet, Bob Bryar had said on October 29:
“I’m just happy we can use the word TRANNY again. I don’t care who hates me anymore. Fight me.”
In another old tweet, the instrumentalist said the following while reportedly discussing the Black Lives Matter protestors.
“Then the cops should get up and shoot everyone.”
X user @matteovaquero also claimed on the social networking site that Bryar had a history of allegedly being “racist.” The user also alleged that the drummer was a conservative who supported Donald Trump.
Bob Bryar, who was 44 years old at the time of his passing, left the band in 2010. Although the exact reason for the same was not made public at the time of writing this article, media outlet The Things claimed that reports of a fight breaking out between him and the rest of the band were circulating online.
Meanwhile, many took to X to share their mixed feelings about the instrumentalist. One netizen said:
"my two cents on the bob bryar situation: as someone who’s truly biggest fear is dying alone and being forgotten, no one deserves to die the way he did. that does not change that he was an awful human. that ALSO does not change the fact that the guys are free to grieve as they see fit because they spent so much time with him and made records with him."
The user continued:
"he did and said terrible things but he contributed to iconic records and spent 10 years with the rest of MCR. be careful with your words"
Several others expressed similar opinions, with many expressing sadness over the way he died. Comments online read:
“also this is not me saying his mental health is responsible for his disgusting actions. that man said some truly foul things that he seriously needed to be held accountable for but moreso just the shock of it all and also how big of the part he was in the band,” an X user said.
“bob bryars words, actions and ideologies were inexcusable. dislike towards that is understandable. but also he struggled massively with mental health. his body being found badly decomposed is sickening. thoughts go out to his family, friends and also the band. be respectful,” another platform user said.
“you guys switched up on bob bryar so fast? it's okay to be a bit distraught and all that s**t but him being part of mcr doesn't change that he grew up to be a bigot? obviously, he needed help and it's sad that he didn't get it, but mental illness doesn't excuse racism etc,” another netizen commented.
Bob Bryar is not the first drummer to quit the band. The band has had four drummers in the past, with the first being Matt Pelissier. Meanwhile, other reactions read:
“Idk enough about the My Chemical Romance lore to know why Bob Bryar was hated, but it's sad to think that his body was rotting in his home for 22 days before people discovered he was dead. Reach out to your loved ones, you never know what somebody is going through,” another netizen said.
“the bob bryar timeline is a strange one randomly got kicked from mcr for “creative differences” years ago randomly resurfaced as a MAGA dumbass just a few months ago and now he’s dead incredibly sad i won’t be able to remember him as anything other than a fascist,” a platform user said.
As many sympathized with his death, others also discussed his mental health. Comments read:
“bob bryar was a racist & a transphobe & i personally don’t think a tragic, untimely, gruesome death should make a saint of anyone. we should not be sanitizing his legacy given how he chose to act in life. however i hope anyone who loved him is doing as well as they can be,” an X user said.
“reminder that bob bryar was a transphobic racist that was slinging slurs just days before his death. he had a reputation of being an a*shole and he stuck to it, even right up until his death. yes someone struggling is sad, but mental health does not excuse bigotry,” an X user said.
“bob bryar was a sh**ty person his entire life. when i think of the my chemical romance that impacted my teenage years, i think of gerard, mikey, frank, and ray. i don't think of bob. i didn't necessarily wish death on the guy, but you reap what you sow,” another platform user said.
My Chemical Romance’s official statement regarding Bob Bryar’s departure from the band explored
In 2010, the band’s guitarist, Frank Iero, took to the band’s official website to share that it was a “painful decision” to have the band separate itself from Bryar. They said:
“This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly. We wish him the best of luck in his endeavors and expect you all to do the same.”
TMZ reported that Bryar entered the real estate industry following his departure from the band. Media outlet News (NewsCorp Australia) also stated that he was devoted to animal rescue since separating from the band.
Bryar toured with the band extensively and contributed to their albums: Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys and The Black Parade, among others.
As per News, Bryar disclosed on social media that he suffered from suicidal ideation following his exit from the band. He said in a tweet:
“It’s been about five years since I was kicked out of MyChem. I became the most depressed, angry, suicidal person ever.”
He went on to share that he was under medical care for the same, but being “kicked out” of the band “still” bothered him “every day.”
Meanwhile, My Chemical Romance announced on November 12 that they were beginning their Long Live tour in July 2025.
