Rapper 42 Dugg shared a post joking about fellow musician Sexyy Red needing protection following the Trump rally shooting. Per an X post by Say Cheese! shared on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the Maybach singer took to his Instagram stories following the shooting:
"They just tried to take Trump out. Y'all make sure yall put 3-4 switches around @sexyyred. We ain't going for that sh*t."
On July 13, former U.S. President Donald Trump was shot in an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania. 42 Dugg, real name Dion Marquise Hayes, is referring to Red's 2023 song Sexyy Red for President from her mixtape Hood Hottest Princess. In the song, she suggests she should run for president. It is to be noted, Red has been vocal about her support for Trump.
As news of the Detrioit-born rapper's IG story spread, internet users were left unimpressed. One exasperated user wrote:
Some claimed this was Dion's way of "shooting his shot" with the Pound Town songstress. Others called his joke lame and corny. Here are some comments seen under @SaycheeseDGTL's post on X:
"42 really a comedian," one fan commented.
"That’s how he shoot his shot ??" @madein_queens wrote.
"Lame ASF. Super corny," added another user.
While many netizens criticized 42, others were left stumped. One wondered if it was a hint towards a new song.
"what’s is he talking about," an X user wondered.
"Bro is in a different mental universe," quipped another.
"He must be working on a new song," NFT Trader Association added.
