Podcaster Joe Budden recently said he has better mixtapes than Lil Wayne and 50 Cent. During a recent episode of his eponymous podcast, the panelists debated who they thought had the greatest mixtape discography. While everyone present had different answers, including Weezy and Fif, Budden asserted:

"Oh that's easy... me... Joe Budden."

By Tuesday, October 8, 2024, the clips from the episode began circulating online.

Internet users were quick to react, one joking that even the podcaster himself doesn't believe he has the best mixtape discography.

Many criticized Budden, calling his claims the "worst Hip Hop take of all time." Here are some comments seen under @SaycheeseDGTL's post on X:

"We finally got it, the worst Hip Hop take of all time," one commented.
"The mood muzik series is very underrated but this take is EGREGIOUS," @MaxD091 added.
"Joe lives in his own world I'm telling you," a fan quipped.

Others spoke up in support of the former rapper, citing his 2000s mixtape series, Mood Musik.

"Say what yall want but Mood Muzik the best mixtape series ever..." @TheKidFresh stated.
"Lets be for real JB is the underground king on some mixtape ish He made mad mixtapes y'all all didn't hear them all because you had to be on Jamaica Ave And on Fulton Street in Brooklyn where they be blasting all the new music(,) music that most of y'all will never hear." another wrote.
"It’s a bunch of people that didn’t listen to Joe’s mixtape discography that are loud and hell complaining about this take lol," a user commented.

Joe Budden rose to prominence dropping mix tapes and demos in the early 2000s

While initially, the panelists ignored Joe Budden's remarks, naming rappers like Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Gucci Mane, Jeezy, Wiz Khalifa, and Fabolous. One of the co-hosts, Lamar "Ice" Burney, argued against Lil Wayne, stating:

"Don't put Wayne in there... don't... see Wayne got a lot of classic but a lot of misses... When we talking greatest discography you can't have this many misses."

This prompted Emanny Salgado, a recurring co-host on the podcast, to state that he would understand if Ice said that but Gucci Mane but not Weezy. Burney remarked that Mane, too, has a lot of mixtapes. Ice added that he was talking about discography, which implied that they don't just look at the best, but rather the entire catalog.

Joe Budden later clarified his stance, stating he couldn't rank anyone but listed his top contenders. He named himself along with Jeezy, Fab, Wayne, and 50.

Joe Budden hails from the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. Growing up a troubled youth, he was sent to a boarding school in North Carolina, where he first began rapping. He rose to prominence in the early 2000s, releasing mixtapes and demos.

His promotional single, Focus, spent seventeen weeks on Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts, peaking at no. 43. This earned him a deal with Def Jam Records. Budden's single, Pump It Up, became an instant hit, earning him critical and commercial success. It was even featured in hit films like 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) and You Got Served (2004).

Through the years, Joe Budden released several studio albums and his Mood Musik mixtape series, the latter of which was met with critical acclaim. By 2017, the rapper turned his focus on broadcasting and a year later started his namesake podcast.
