Denzel Curry took to X on August 13 to share that he and JPEGMAFIA worked on Kanye West's latest album, Vultures 2. Neither artist was credited in the album, though.
In his tweet, Curry revealed:
"Me and JPEG both worked on VULTURES 2."
Fans quickly reacted to Denzel Curry's claims. While some believed working with Kanye West is not something to be proud of, others urged them to launch their own collaboration album instead. Here are some fan reactions:
"How did it come out so a*s if both of you helped" a user asked.
"Keep working on it to fix it" another netizen joked.
"and you still couldn't fix that shit" an X user said.
"you shouldn’t admit this bro" a netizen wrote.
Other users urged Curry and JPEG to work together soon, while some continued to make fun of Vultures 2.
"Well both of u better not touch the solo album that’s all ik" an X user commented.
"you two need to make a collab album" another individual added.
"bro just fed all of hip hop news twitter with this one" a fan quipped.
"Overhated album" an individual opined.
Both Denzel Curry and JPEGMAFIA working with West was considered unlikely, especially as both artists have been critical of the rapper previously. Neither has collaborated or announced any such move with Kanye until now.
Denzel Curry was previously critical of Kanye West
Denzel Curry's sudden announcement of his unofficial collaboration with Kanye West has shocked fans, especially as the rapper has been critical of Ye at times.
Curry once criticized Kanye's album DONDA and Drake's Certified Lover Boy on social media, describing them as subpar. In a tweet from June 2022, Curry wrote:
"DONDA and CLB could’ve been better. Y'all n**gas rich and got the greatest musicians at your disposal."
The rapper also criticized the artwork of both albums, tweeting:
“The artwork for both projects were booty.”
The rapper stuck to his opinion about both albums during SPIN's June 2022 cover story. Curry revealed that he always looks forward to Drake's albums but was left disappointed with Certified Lover Boy. He said:
“I was looking forward to Drake’s album, ‘cause Drake always got something. But then, when you get them albums, you’re like, ‘What the f**k are you doing?’”
Denzel Curry shared his thoughts about Kanye West's album in the same interview:
“We don’t even really need to talk about Kanye West. It’s Kanye West. But for them to go out, and go against each other and make that subpar work with the resources they have."
Curry believed both Ye and Drizzy's albums were backed by producers who are difficult for him to reach out to. The rapper believed it's unacceptable for stars like them to release "subpar" work despite having ample resources at hand. He added:
"These are the same producers it’s hard for me to reach out to because they don’t see the return. You’ve got all these resources, and y’all made subpar albums. I had limited resources, and I made a great one. That shouldn’t happen.”
In other news, Denzel Curry and JPEGMAFIA have dropped their first official video for the standout track, JPEGULTRA! from the album I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU. The video is directed by Curry and featured black-and-white visuals of the two rappers singing their parts.
