On August 15, 2024, Taylor Swift released two new limited-edition digital versions of The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD), each containing a new live song she performed during The Eras Tour. One version contained The Prophecy (Long Story Short – Live From Lyon) while the other included a mashup of her TTPD song, thank You aimEe and her Speak Now song Mean from her July show in London.
The mashup, titled thank You aimEe (Mean – Live from London) caught Swifties' attention due to its stylistic variation in the capital letters from the song's original title. The initial track was stylized thanK you aIMee, with KIM capitalized, which many suspected alluded to Kim Kardashian.
Netizens on social media speculated that Swift targeted a different person in the new version, with the capital letters spelling out YE, referring to Kanye West. One person tweeted:
Many were surprised at this obvious change in the title, wondering if Taylor Swift was shifting her focus from Kim Kardashian to Kanye West.
"Okay so we changed kim to ye KANYE???" one person tweeted.
"Not them spelling YE as in kanye," another person added.
"YE??? KANYE??? ITS 3AM WHAT ARE YOU SAYJNG," someone else commented.
"NOT THE Y AND E CAPITALIZED TN I’M-," another fan wrote.
Others speculated who Taylor Swift was trying to block on the Billboard charts by releasing two new digital variants of her latest album.
"Who are we blocking now?" one person questioned.
"All this to block chappell," another person speculated.
"Taylor sweetie, take a year or 2 off Give the other girlies a chance!" someone else tweeted.
"I guess Chappell will have to wait for that #1," another user commented.
Kanye West name-dropped Taylor Swift in his new Vultures 2 album
Taylor Swift's history with Kanye West has been well-documented throughout the years since its first instance at the 2009 VMA Awards. The rapper interrupted the then-19-year-old singer's acceptance speech for Best Video by a Female Artist on stage, adding Beyoncé should have won the award instead of Swift.
While the two patched up after that and posed for pictures together, Kanye West name-dropped Swift in his 2016 song Famous, where he rapped:
"I feel like me and Taylor might still have s*x. Why? I made that b**** famous."
West's then-wife Kim Kardashian released an allegedly edited phone conversation between the rapper and Swift, claiming the singer permitted the line to be used in the song. However, Swift released a statement in June 2016 that she and Ye had spoken on the phone once and had never discussed the song. Following this, Ye released the music video for Famous, where he used a naked sculpture resembling Swift.
In an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim doubled down on her claim that Swift and Ye discussed the lyrics ahead of the song's release, alleging the singer was playing the victim.
However, Taylor Swift's team claimed the singer was never made aware of the actual lyrics. Following this, Taylor Swift disappeared from the public eye, only emerging in August 2017 to announce her new album reputation. The album had several references to Ye and Kim Kardashian.
The most recent interaction between Ye and Taylor Swift included the rapper name-dropping her and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, in his song Lifestyle (Demo). The song was a part of his album Vultures 2 with Ty Dolla $ign under the name ¥$.
“I twist my Taylor spliffs tight at the end like Travis Kelce,” Ye rapped in the song.
Taylor Swift also blocked Vultures 2 from topping the Billboard 200 charts with The Tortured Poets Department, ending Ye's 11-album-long streak of debuting at No. 1.
