On Monday, August 5, a video surfaced online that showed Canadian rapper Drake rehearsing with a live band. Reportedly filmed by one of his managers, Matte Babel, the practice session seemingly happened last week ahead of Drizzy’s PartyNextDoor & Friends concert in Toronto on August 2.

In the now-viral clip, 6 God could be heard rehearsing his 2021 single Pipe Down from his sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy. Notably, he performed the song live in a rare moment during his concert, but the live band from the rehearsal was not present onstage.

Regardless, people online are now having diverse reactions to 6 God’s rehearsal. While some trolled him, others expressed their excitement over his potential collaboration with a live band.

Instagram user with the handle @ebtpapi_ commented under DJ Akademiks’ repost of the rehearsal video and mocked Drizzy by writing:

Meanwhile, many others joined the conversation on other social media platforms, such as X, and ridiculed him for attempting to be like his hip-hop rival Kendrick Lamar.

“Lol bro wants to be Kendrick so bad,” a person wrote.
“Kendrick really bullied bro into trying to reinvent his image as an artist,” one person wrote.
“Drake with the Melodies. Looks like he taking Kendrick advice,” another person wrote.

Meanwhile, Drizzy’s fans lauded his efforts and trolled back Kendrick.

“Nice to see Drake working non-stop for the fans. Kendrick might have retired it’s hard to say,” a fan wrote.
“We are about to get something phenomenal. Drake and a live band, I love to see it,” one fan wrote.
“Nah this hard. This the Drake I can root for,” another fan wrote.

Here are some general comments about Drizzy’s rehearsal with a live band.

“Drake going down like the global economy,” a netizen wrote.
“He must not perform with a band often,” one netizen wrote.
“MTV unplugged or VH1 storytellers would be a good vibe right about now,” another netizen wrote.

In brief, exploring Drake’s PartyNextDoor & Friends concert

On Friday, August 2, Drizzy performed at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto at the PartyNextDoor & Friends concert for an hour. He rapped renditions of his popular tracks, including Pipe Down, Practice, Connect, Finesse, Redemption, and Wah Gwan Delilah (for the first time), alongside the 2015 remix of RamRiddlz Sweeterman, among others.

During the show, 6 God announced that he and Canadian R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer PartyNextDoor were getting together for a project, hinting that it would drop in the fall/ winter.

"On behalf of me and Party, we’ve been working on something for y’all. So, you get the summer over with, you do what you need to do. I know all you girls are outside. When it gets a little chilly, PartyNextDoor and Drake album will be waiting right there for you," Drizzy shared with the crowd.

Reportedly an LP, it is slated to be 6 God and PND’s first full-length collaboration. Previously, the former has featured on several of the latter’s songs including Recognize, Come and See Me, Loyal, and more.

PartyNextDoor has been a longtime collaborator of Drizzy and was the first artist to sign with his OVO Sound label. During Friday's concert, 6 God called tagged him "the King of R&B."
