"Now is the time to build community" — Lizzo urges fans to turn their "fear" into "constructive activism" after Trump's inauguration

On Tuesday, January 21, Lizzo shared an Instagram video to share an emotional message in the wake Donald Trump's presidential inauguration on January 20.

The Better in Color rapper acknowledged feelings of fear, anxiety, and disappointment felt by her audience after Trump got re-elected. Asking them to channel those emotions into meaningful action, the Birthday Girl rapper asked them to build community:

"Now is the time to convert your fear or your anger or your disappointment or your anxiety into constructive activism, community building and movement. Please do not allow the weight of the world to change your world. Remember the value of having a pure heart."

Then guiding her audience to focus on self-care and radical positivity, Lizzo said:

"There are ways to take action every single day to make this world a better place. And sometimes just having a good day can be a radical act. And remember, give yourself grace and be kind to yourself today. Take some time, take some space, do whatever you need, because you deserve it."

The 36-year-old concluded her message by urging fans to be kind and patient with others, offering others grace as the world continued to "shift and shape into things we never thought we'd see".


Lizzo's message comes as Trump signed multiple executive orders after being sworn in

Soon after Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the US, he took immediate measures to deliver on the key promises he had made during the presidential election.

The 78-year-old signed over 100 executive orders on Monday, January 20. One of them included granting TikTok an extension of 75 days until the deadline of the TikTok ban law.

He also proposed an External Revenue Service that will focus on collecting tariffs on products from other countries, including a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico starting February 1. Per the president, these tariffs will generate a substantial amount of revenue for the US Treasury.

Among his other executive orders is a decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

As far as the immigration policy of the US is concerned, Trump has signed 10 executive orders addressing both legal and illegal immigration. Per Business Standard, one of the orders declares a national emergency on the nation's southern border, where the 78-year-old has pledged to deploy additional military forces for more security.

Another one aims to end birthright citizenship in the US - a legal principle that grants a child citizenship automatically upon their birth in the country. The Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees this right, stating:

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside."

If passed, the order will also require an amendment in the constitution with two-thirds of the votes from the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Trump has also signed an order for the US to exit from the World Health Organization (WHO), in addition to withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015.

With these orders, the entrepreneur aims to prioritize domestic energy production and dismantle the Biden-era climate policies. He also plans to ease burdens on oil and natural gas production that were imposed in the Biden-era, particularly in Alaska.


Lizzo has always been vocal about her support for Kamala Harris and criticism of Donald Trump throughout the course of the presidential election. Per AllHipHop, the Tempo singer told the outlet previously:

"I’m proud to say that I voted, I voted early and I voted for Kamala Harris. They say voting is not a love letter; it is a chess move. If your vote didn’t matter, voter suppression would not exist."
