News about rapper OG Maco being hospitalized circulated on Friday, December 13, after his manager, Poppa Perc told AllHipHop that he shot himself. On Monday, Maco's family revealed that the rapper was in a "critical but stable condition."
The update by Perc as well as Maco's family arrived after rumors of him passing away spread on the internet. While Poppa Perc told AllHipHop that he thought the rapper was dead when he first saw him, the manager later confirmed that the rapper was alive.
In Maco's family's statement that was shared on social media on December 16, 2024, they wrote:
"We want to inform OG Maco’s fans, friends, and supporters that he is currently in critical but stable condition. He is receiving the best possible care, and we are staying hopeful as he continues to fight."
The family further clarified that all verified updates about the rapper would come only from the official social media account. The statement mentioned:
"Please note, all official updates regarding OG Maco’s health will come directly from his official social media accounts. This will be the only source for valid information."
iHeartRadio reported that the rapper shot himself and a neighbor called the cops upon hearing the sound of a gunshot.
Poppa Perc revealed that rapper OG Maco was going to rebrand
In the recent conversation with AllHipHop, where Poppa Perc confirmed that Maco was alive and in the hospital, the manager also has insights into the rapper's plans concerning his career. According to Perc, Maco plans to "rebrand" and launch new music under a different alias.
As per reports by AllHipHop, the rumors about the rapper passing away from his injuries began spreading after DJ Tony Neal shared an Instagram post on December 12. In the post, Neal wrote:
"No wonder why I didn’t hear back from you, baby bro @ogxmaco in Aug when u said you didn’t wanna do music no more, I thought it was goin’ thru a slump, but now I see .. it was bigger than that #TheRage."
DJ Paul later posted a reel on his feed, which has been deleted, in which he wrote:
"We wish people we love spoke out to us more about whats going on inside but a lot of times its hard for some because this world is so driven on ‘Impressions.'"
Maco's manager reportedly commented on the post and clarified that the rapper wasn't dead. In a follow-up post which was deleted too, Paul stated that Maco was alive and that he was "praying" for him.
For those unaware, OG Maco has been in the industry since 2011. He, however, first gained massive recognition after releasing his popular single, titled U Guessed It, back in 2014.
The track which secured 90th rank on the Billboard Hot 100, also got a remix version featuring 2 Chainz. It became so popular that Maco got a chance to sign a deal with Quality Control Music.
As of now, he has released only one studio album named The God Of Rage in 2021.
