Netizens have taken issue with Nicole Scherzinger's recent remarks over the Russell Brand post controversy. On Friday, November 8, 2024, the former Pussycat Dolls singer took to her Instagram stories to explain her comments under the British personality's "Make Jesus First Again" post. Apologizing to her fans, she wrote:
"When I commented on these posts, I made the mistake of not realizing that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related and I apologize to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion."
For the unversed, earlier in the week, Brand shared an IG post showing a picture of himself holding a red hat that read, "Make Jesus First Again." The color and text of the hat alluded to Donald Trump's campaign MAGA (Make America Great Again) hat and the comedian's recent conversion to Christianity.
Nicole Scherzinger later commented under the post, which has since been deleted, writing,
"Where do I get this hat!!!?"
However, netizens criticized her for her supposed pro-Donald Trump stance.
As screenshots of Scherzinger's story went viral, internet users were quick to react. One saying:
"Oh she must think we slow."
Many criticized Nicole Scherzinger's reasoning, stating that the hat was very similar to the MAGA hat. Here are some comments seen under @PopBase's post on X:
"nah she knew exactly what she was doing," one wrote.
"Girl just take the L and carry on" another stated.
"that hat has been a symbol of one very specific thing for nearly a decade. no one is dumb enough to not know what it means, be so damn serious," a netizen remarked.
Several others posted in her support. A few users called out her association with Brand, who recently has been facing s*xual assault allegations.
"Apology acknowledged," another commented.
"Why would you apologize? Never be ashamed of Jesus," a user added.
"everyone is talking about the hat but russell brand? known abuser?? f**k off lmao," one person wrote.
"I come from a place of love"- Nicole Scherzinger about her comment on Russell Brand's post
In her Instagram post, Nicole Scherzinger explained that her comment led many to draw "presumptions" about her that "do not reflect who (she was), what (she) stood for, or who (she) vote(d) for." She continued:
"Many of the marginalized communities feeling hurt and concerned by the results of the presidential election are people I care about most. I stand with them, as I always have, throughout my life and career. If you know me, you know that."
Scherzinger reasoned that during times of "adversity and uncertainty," she always turned to her "faith." She elaborated that the message of "putting Jesus first" is what resonated with her. She concluded her message by writing:
"I come from a place of love, and I will always support values that bring us closer together. It's so important we come together with compassion, and love one another more now than ever."
One of the criticisms that Nicole Scherzinger's comment under Russell Brand's post raised was that she engaged with Brand. Five women recently accused the British comedian of r*pe, s*xual assault, and emotional abuse.
Additionally, Brand, who has been vocal in his support of Donald Trump, celebrated the Republican candidate's victory in the 2024 U.S. Elections.
This further fueled speculations that Nicole Scherzinger's comment was politically driven.
Per a November 2024 article by the Independent, in light of the news, a screenshot showing the former Pussycat Dolls singer liking an Instagram post by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. went viral. The caption under the post read:
"Yes, @russellbrand, @tuckercarlson, I will restore free speech, end the forever wars and protect children's health once we get @realdonaldtrump back in the White House."
Russell Brand, for his part, has denied all accusations against him.
Nicole Scherzinger is currently part of a Sunset Blvd. revival production. The musical transferred to St. James Theatre on Broadway, New York, after a successful run at London's West End.
