The Weeknd has officially posted the first look into his upcoming sixth studio album, reportedly titled Hurry Up Tomorrow, in a teaser trailer which confirms the end of his second album trilogy which began with the release of After Hours in 2020.
The upcoming project will follow up on Abel 'The Weeknd' Tesfaye's fifth studio album Dawn FM, which was released back in 2022 hosting guest appearances from Tyler The Creator and Lil Wayne.
The new teaser hints at a deeply personal project that seemingly finds Abel dealing with an identity crisis, as he ends the trailer stating:
"The very thing that once made me invincible failed me on the world stage. A new trauma surfaced, opening floodgates. A new path awaits. When today ends, I’ll discover who I am."
Fans have flooded to social media platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) to repost and share the news of an upcoming Weeknd album as well as discuss various theories on what the highly anticipated project would thematically revolve around.
One individual was seen praising Abel's artistry citing how the artist has managed to develop "two legendary trilogies" and create one of the "best discographies" of this generation.
More reactions followed with fans praising Abel's music while highlighting their anticipation over receiving a new album later this year. Many were also seen speculating if Hurry Up Tomorrow could potentially mark the end of The Weeknd's professional career.
"The return of the weeknd is something the industry really needed right now", said a fan.
"Interested to see what direction he takes with this one", said another.
"After Hours, Dawn FM, Hurry UP Tomorrow— the end of THE WEEKND" , a fan speculates.
"Theory: DawnFm is the future hence the old weeknd on the album cover, After Hours is the present might signify his youth, him running around in 'blinding lights' video, chasing women in 'in your eyes' video, the new album is the past, hence the baby pics he posting as the rollout", another fan adds.
"Yes, yes very ominous and spooky. Listen, please pick a different font if you want me to be able to read all that without getting a headache. Looking forward to the new you or whatever." , a fan commented under The Weeknd's post.
"Dear Abel, I just wanted to take a moment to express my love for your music and the profound connection I feel with you, both as a person and through the characters you've created. I've been an XO since the beginning, and I will always be XO", a fan stated.
"That album title sounds intriguing—can't wait to hear what it's all about!", another stated.
"So…None of us expected that title. Most of us thought it was Afterlife or something.", a fan seemed surprised at Hurry Up Tomorrow's announcement.
Everything we know about The Weeknd's sixth studio album 'Hurry Up Tomorrow'
Yesterday (Sept. 03), The Weeknd took to social media to post an official teaser trailer for his highly anticipated sixth studio album Hurry Up Tomorrow. The video includes a series of cryptic statements questioning his career with references to his discography.
The teaser was accompanied by an extremely dramatic soundtrack seemingly building the tension around the self-questioning statements presented in the video. The Hurry Up Tomorrow trailer is introduced with the following statements:
"Yesterday was 14 years ago. We held our breath, falling into a shimmering sea in the after-hours of the night. Attempted to cleanse the wounds with melodies and lights, a bulletproof bandage to shield what lies beneath.”
Abel continues by speaking about his career, believing that he's stuck in time and is yet to see a positive change in his life. The singer-songwriter explains how days feel like "endless spins" where he is no longer affected by his vices.
“In a place where the seasons never changed, where time ceased to exist. But therein lies the problem. Today has felt like an endless spin. I keep distorting the truth, immune to the dizziness, numb to the nausea. What lies beneath – screams in silence.”, The Weeknd states.
As the video reaches its conclusion, Abel expresses his desire to no longer be bound by an identity crisis. The singer highlights how he wishes to face himself, citing how writing "more music" could help him, when he states:
"I look in the mirror and feel both old and new, stuck in limbo and unable to move. I still haven’t faced myself. More songs could help, but what do I have left to say? Woe is me in my gilded cage, right?"
The trailer ends with Abel hoping to discover who he is while continuing to deal with old and new "traumas" surfacing in his life. Although the singer is yet to unveil the official release date for Hurry Up Tomorrow, the album is expected to be delivered to streaming services before the year ends.
Not much is known about the features and potential guest appearances on The Weeknd's upcoming Hurry Up Tomorrow LP. However, many speculate that, like After Hours and Dawn FM, the upcoming album may include between 14-18 full-length records as part of its official tracklist.
