Social media users were left shocked and angered after the popular rapper, Flava Flav claimed that he was asked by NBC to leave the 2024 Rockerfeller Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, which took place on December 4, 2024.
With many celebrities like Jennifer Hudson, Little Big Town, and Backstreet Boys seen at the event, Flava Flav conveyed how he wanted to attend the event, but wasn’t allowed to, even though he claims that he was invited. The rapper wrote on X:
“I feel weird. I was invited to the Rockerfeller Tree Lighting tonight and I was escorted to see my boys… THE BACKSTREET BOYS… and we were backstage in their dressing room.. The security came up to me and says that NBC does not want me in this area and I need to leave."
While NBC had not responded to the fiasco as of this writing, social media users bashed the media outlet for treating Flava Flav this way.
An Instagram account, @thejasminebrand posted about the same on the platform, to which another social media user responded by calling the rapper “the most unproblematic legend.”
The netizen wrote:
“I would’ve been like “whoever TF sent you to say that scary, tell them say it to me and catch these MF hands and feet or YEW gonna catch them. Run it.” Audacity is out there and the people is trying it. Mannn, Flav is one of the most unproblematic legends!!”
Furthermore, others also lashed out at NBC and said:
The 2024 Rockerfeller Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was hosted by Kelly Clarkson
While Flava Flav shared a disappointing experience at the event, it's worth highlighting the festive spirit and grandeur of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The event was hosted by Kelly Clarkson, and many stars like the Backstreet Boys, Jennifer Hudson, Dan + Shay, Megan Hilty, and Thalia performed.
For the unversed, the massive tree is decorated with over 50,000 multicoloured LED lights, strung across five miles of wiring. Furthermore, at its peak sits a dazzling Swarovski star made of three million crystals.
Once lit, the tree will shine daily from 5 a.m. to midnight, with special timings on Christmas Eve, which is 5 am to 9 pm, and 24 hours on Christmas Day. It will remain up until early January.
Furthermore, while netizens continue to pour in their criticism for NBC, the media outlet has not explained why Flava Flav was asked to leave the event.
