Fans speculate on Chappell Roan's (real name Kayleigh Rose Amstutz) new album after the singer's latest post. Roan took to her Instagram on Thursday, December 12, 2024, to share a childhood photo of herself beside an opossum, with the caption:
"this may or may not be an easter egg!!!"
This prompted fans to wonder if the Good Luck, Babe! hitmaker was hinting at a new album.
For the uninformed, Chappell Roan gained prominence with her 2020 song Pink Pony Club. She followed it up with her album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. While the project was praised critically, it didn't gain commercial attention until Roan's appearance on Olivia Rodrigo's Guts World Tour.
As the post went viral, netizens were quick to react. One commented:
"Opossum themed country album yup yup."
Many joked that the new project would be called possum or roadkill.
"so is the album or lead single called possum or something?" one joked.
"So ready for Chappossum," another remarked.
"the easter egg being roadkill," a user quipped.
Others wondered if Roan's fingers were a clue.
"02/02? MUSIC COMING FEBRUARY 2ND," one fan guessed.
"let’s read this again people “this MAY or MAY not be an easter egg” album/single coming may 2025," another suggested.
"4 FINGERS CR2 IN APRIL THIS IS NOT A DRILL," a person added.
Chappell Roan already has five or six songs written for her new album
In a September 2024 interview with the Rolling Stone magazine, Chappell Roan revealed she was collaborating with producer Daniel Nigro on her new album. Nigro has produced and written for projects like Carly Rae Jepsen's Emotion (2015), Olivia Rodrigo's Sour (2019), and Roan's debut album.
The Femininomenon hitmaker told the publication that she had five or six songs already, stating:
"We have a country song. We have a dancy song. We have one that’s really Eighties, and we have one that’s acoustic, and we have one that’s really organic, live-band, Seventies vibe. It’s super weird."
She also noted that her song The Subway, which the singer has played during her recent concerts, was part of the album. Roan also told the publication she felt pressure to match the success of her previous work. She explained:
"(The next single) needs to have more grit, whether that means more pop grit or rock grit or just bite to the lyrics. Anything that I listen to—Joan Jett, Heart, Gaga—I want to feel like them. So I’ll just be inspired by that feeling and how I can capture it."
Chappell Roan had a successful 2024, starting with her being listed among the several best album lists and reaching the #2 spot on the Billboard 200. She won the top new artist award at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards this week. Additionally, Chappell Roan embarked on her Midwest Princess Tour in 2023 and 2024 in support of the album.
Roan nabbed six nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Song, Record, and Album of the Year. She is among the fifteen artists who have earned a nomination in all four general field categories in one night.
Roan has not revealed a release date for her alleged upcoming album.
