Snoop Dogg has been working closely with NBC to cover various events of the Olympics 2024 and host interactive sessions with the athletes and their relatives. In his latest gig as a host, Snoop Dogg took swimming lessons from one of the greatest athletes in the history of the Olympics, Michael Phelps.
The 23-time Olympic gold medalist was seen teaching Snoop Dogg and describing all the key elements required to be a professional swimmer in the NBC Sports segment. In a hilarious exchange between the two, Snoop commented that he has the perfect shape required to excel in the sport.
"Wingspan, lung power — I definitely have great lung power — and I do have a swimmer’s body. Our bodies are similar Mike; we could be twins," quipped the rapper when Phelps explained the key attributes of a champion swimmer.
Another hilarious moment in the exchange was when Snoop declared that he didn't need to wear sunglasses before jumping into the pool for his freestyle stroke. The 52-year-old responded with a determined "hell no" when asked to wear his goggles by Phelps.
The duo even tried synchronized swimming before Snoop inferred that his body was in "gold medal condition." Later, he joked about needing oxygen after the swimming session was over.
This isn't the first time Snoop Dogg has taken a masterclass from an Olympic athlete. The rapper previously joined the United States team to learn weightlifting and a special judo move called OG. The rapper also joined the Olympic broadcast by providing his unique takes on various events during the tournament's first week.
“As you can see, it don’t stop ‘til the casket drop,” commented Snoop during the badminton match between the United States and China.
Snoop Dogg carried the iconic Olympic flame in the torch relay ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics
Snoop Dogg has been an integral part of the preparations for the Paris Olympics 2024 and was also a torchbearer at the final stage of the Olympic Torch Relay before the Opening Ceremony. The rapper walked through the streets of Saint Dennis with the flaming torch in hand on July 26 with the iconic white attire of the Paris Olympics 2024.
The rapper was seen sporting golden sneakers and waving to the crowd that had gathered on the street. Finally, the rapper disappeared out of sight when he put his sneakers to the test and jogged up the Stade de France Olympic Stadium to finish the relay.
Snoop also referred to the legendary Muhammad Ali's torch-holding stint during the start of the 1996 Olympics in an interview with AP News last week.
“It was emotional for all of us to see the champ [Muhammad Ali] holding that torch and walking up there,” commented the rapper.
The rapper further expressed gratitude over getting the opportunity to represent his country.
“I look at this as a prestigious honor and something I truly respect. I would have never dreamed of nothing like this. I’m going to be on my best behavior. I’m going to be on my best athleticism. I’ll be able to breathe slow to walk fast and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realize how prestigious this event is,” remarked Snoop Dogg.
Snoop will be an integral part of NBC's coverage of the Olympics this time and will travel to various places and connect with the families of many athletes of the United States team. He will interview them and learn about the journey of the athletes who are touted by millions to win big for their country.
