In brief, exploring the career of Rich Homie Quan

Rich Homie Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, was born in Atlanta in October 1990. He began his hip-hop career in 2011 after spending 15 months in prison for burglary.

“I never saw myself going this far with music. Music was just a hobby at first. I never saw myself being onstage and rocking out shows. After I got out of jail, I started to take it more seriously, and that’s when my dream came true,” he told XXL Magazine in 2014.

Rich Homie rose to fame in 2013 with his breakout single Type of Way, which charted at number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 list and sold over half a million copies. The song’s remix featured rappers Meek Mill and Jeezy.

His other notable ventures include mixtapes such as I Go In on Every Song, Still Goin' In, If You Ever Think I Will Stop Goin' in Ask RR (Royal Rich), and Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh). In 2018, Rich Homie Quan dropped his debut studio album, Rich as in Spirit, under the label of Motown Records.

Over the years, he has collaborated with several artists, including Boosie BadAzz, Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, 2 Chainz, Tyga, Wale, Kid Ink, and more. Quan was a member of Cash Money Records’ spin-off venture Rich Gang alongside fellow rapper Young Thug, Birdman, and Jacquees.

Interestingly, Rich Homie was scheduled to testify at the ongoing RICO trial of Young Thug, and his name was dropped in court recently when the latter was asked about his alleged rivalry with the late rapper.
