Maxie Lee Ryles III, known by his stage name Fivio Foreign, recently claimed that Kendrick Lamar plans to bring out his rival Drake during his Super Bowl halftime show. In an Instagram live session on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the rapper said:
"I heard that Kendrick is gonna bring out Lil Wayne. Then Lil Wayne is gonna bring out Drake. Then Kendrick is gonna squash their beef."
For the uninitiated, the decision that Kenny would perform at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans was controversial. He was chosen over Lil Wayne, a Louisiana native and his rival Drake is Wayne's protege.
Internet personality DJ Akademiks later shared a recording of Fivio's live stream on his Instagram page.
As news of Fivio Foreign's claims spread, internet users were quick to react. One expressed their skepticism, commenting:
Netizens continued to berate the Milano hitmaker for lying, adding that he was being a "chatty patty." Here are some comments seen under DJ Akademiks' IG post:
Others remarked that if the rumors were true, the rapper ruined the surprise for everyone.
"No round two"— Kendrick Lamar while announcing his Super Bowl halftime performance
In his video, Fivio Foreign provided no proof or sources to support his claims. Additionally, he gave no other details about the show. However, he said that the concept of Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, and Drake coming together was "fire."
Earlier this month, Kendrick Lamar announced his Super Bowl performance on the halftime show in a YouTube video of him standing in a field in front of an American flag.
"Will you be pulling up? I hope so. You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship. No round twos," Lamar said in his video.
While "no round twos" meant no round two in a championship, fans have speculated that the phrase referenced Kendrick Lamar's recent beef with Drake. Many claimed it was a response to Drizzy's Instagram story, shared from his burner account @plotttttwisttttt. The story featured basketball icon Rasheed Wallace asserting, "We will win Game 2."
In a joint announcement with Apple Music and Roc Nation (which helps select the artist for the halftime show), NFL Head of Music Seth Dudowsky praised Kendrick Lamar for his impact on music and culture. Roc Nation founder Jay-Z called Lamar a "once-in-a-generation artist and performer." He added that Lamar's work "transcends music."
Following the Super Bowl announcement, Lil Wayne took to his Instagram to express disappointment and hurt at being overlooked, especially considering he was from New Orleans, where the event will take place. Fans and several industry big names like Drake and Nicki Minaj have spoken in his support.
It is hard to imagine either Drake or Lil Wayne joining Kendrick Lamar on stage, considering the former's rap feud with K.Dot, which saw both artists dropping diatribes after another. Each diss track mocked the other's career and private lives.
Grammy-nominated producer Metro Boomin, while speaking at the Forbes Under 30 Summit on Monday, explained that the internet and "stan culture" among fans made the beef between the two worse. He added that hip-hop is an extremely competitive genre and that "there's a lot of ego involved." He called Drake v. Kendrick Lamar beef "entertainment" and expressed his respect for both artists.
