More details on Dwight Yoakam and Post Malone’s new track

I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom) is a barroom country song that blends strumming guitars with a cheerful beat. The instruments—organs, fiddles, and drums contribute to the song’s melody. The lyrics of the song however take a somewhat mellow approach as Dwight Yoakam and Post Malone sing about the confusion and uncertainty that accompanies the end of a romantic relationship. The chorus, jointly sung by Dwight Yoakam and Post encapsulates these feelings:

"I don't know how/ To say goodbye/ I don't know where/ I would start to even try/ I never learned/ Can't tell you why/ But I don't know how/ To say goodbye/ I don't know how we lost our way/ I don't know where these two hearts both went astray,"

In the heartbreak song’s refrain, the duo realizes that the aftermath of their initial confusion is sadness, emptiness, and a broken heart with lyrics:

"Bang, bang, boom, boom/ There's nothing left here now but sadnеss/ And bang, bang, boom, boom/ And the emptiness of all that's gonе/ Bang, bang, boom, boom/ No sounds of love, just sorrow and madness/ And bang, bang, boom, boom/ Is how a broken heart beats on,"

I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom) is among 13 other tracks that will compose the Brighter Days album reported to be released in November 2024. The album features tracks like Wide Open Heart, I’ll Pay the Price, California Sky and If Only, amongst others, written and co-written by Dwight Yoakam alongside covers Keep On the Sunny Side by the Carter Family and Bound Away by Cake.

The Guitars & Cadillacs hitmaker has collaborated with Post on several occasions in the past. In 2018, Post appeared on Yoakam’s radio channel where they performed the latter’s A Thousand Miles From Nowhere and a cover of The Bottle Let Me Down by Merle Haggard.

The duo teamed up again in April 2024 for a Stagecoach performance of Dwight’s Little Ways. In July 2024, Post Malone came on stage during Yoakam’s show in Los Angeles and performed alongside the country music legend, Little Things, Guitars & Cadillacs, and Fast As You, amongst other tracks.

According to a recent TMZ TikTok, Malone and Yoakam were spotted riding horses on the streets of Hollywood in a western atire during what appears to be the video shoot for the new song.
