On December 16, Chappell Roan appeared on an episode of A Carpool Karaoke Christmas with Zane Lowe, where she shared her feelings about the Grammys. The singer described the award show as “a double-edged sword,” stating:
“It’s such a double-edged sword for me, because I’m like, ‘Yes, it is a talent show for the popular kids. That’s one side. But the other side is, ‘Oh my God, how amazing is it that a gay artist wrote a gay song that went No. 1, with a gay writer who did not grow up in the industry, did not have an in, has been busting her a– for like a decade?'”
Furthermore, she expressed that it is “an honor to be nominated with some of the other artists.” When asked if she had prepared a speech, Chappell Roan responded:
“I don’t have a speech yet, but you know me. I’m going to say something controversial. Why not? Girl, what do I have to lose? The fearlessness comes from in my heart knowing I’m always going to be OK.”
As soon as Chappell’s words reached the masses, many began reacting and sharing their opinions. An X user, @PopCrave, shared the news on the platform, prompting another user comment:
“Psyched for her speech now.”
Netizens had similar reactions on the social media platform.
“Oh god this is gonna be good, she always says the wildest stuff at these things lmao,” commented a netizen.
“The grammys' voters have the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever,” added another.
“She needs to win.. I wanna hear it,” stated one more.
Meanwhile, others wrote about how they wanted Chappell Roan to win the award.
“She better get that speech ready because she’s winning at least one of those awards. I have her locked for that Best New Artist,” exclaimed a netizen.
“Oh she knows she’s easily winning best new artist,” stated another.
