Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA) has officially announced the cancellation and postponement of all their remaining 2024 tour dates. The decision comes as the renowned band's frontman, Josh Homme, continues to undergo essential medical treatment.

The announcement was made on their official social media accounts on Friday, August 23, 2024. In their statement, the band said:

“QOTSA regret to announce the cancellation and/or postponement of all remaining 2024 shows. Josh has been given no choice but to prioritize his health and to receive essential medical care through the remainder of the year.”

The band had begun touring in light of their latest album, In Times New Roman..., which came out in June 2023.

Queens of the Stone Age reveals impacted tour dates

The cancellation covers several high-profile performances that were slated to take place across North America and Mexico. The following dates in particular have been postponed until 2025:

  • September 27-28 in Boston, MA, at the MGM Music Hall
  • October 1 in Cincinnati, OH, at the Andrew J Brady Music Center
  • October 2 in Chicago, IL, at the Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island
  • October 4 in Madison, Wl, at Breese Stevens Field

Apart from postponing these performances, Queens of the Stone Age has canceled the following festival appearances:

  • September 29 at the Southside Music Festival in Bridgeport,
  • October 6 at the Mempho Music Festival in Memphis, TN
  • November 17 at the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City, Mexico

The band has advised ticket holders to check out the specific event sites for updates. Those who purchased tickets for Queens of the Stone Age's shows will be contacted by the point of purchase for further details, or potential refunds.

Josh Homme's health journey

In June 2023, Josh Homme disclosed that he had been diagnosed with cancer in 2022. While he did undergo successful surgery to remove the cancer, the specific details surrounding the illness have not been revealed.

However, despite the surgery being successful, Homme's ongoing health perils require him to take time off from touring and performing. In July 2024, Queens of the Stone Age had already canceled eight European tour dates. This was to allow Homme to return to the United States for emergency surgery.

Ultimately, the band had no choice but to cancel and postpone a series of shows in July and August. Now, the entirety of their remaining 2024 schedule has been postponed till further notice.

Fans react to Queens of the Stone Age's announcement

The band's announcement has elicited supportive reactions from their fanbase. Many responded with well wishes for Homme, expressing their hope for his speedy recovery.

"Damn, hope Josh gets well soon. He's a guy who can get up on stage and play even in a situation like this. I'm glad that he or someone else is prioritizing his health…," one person said.
"Feel better Josh! We want you healthy and happy, music can always wait!" another person said.
"Oh no. Been waiting for Soundside. Hope he’s well soon," one fan said.

Queens of the Stone Age noted the fans' support and thanked them for understanding in their recent statement. It further read:

“Josh and the QOTSA family are so thankful for your support and the time we were able to spend together over the last year. Hope to see you all again in 2025.”

Queens of the Stone Age has been a formidable force in the rock music arena since the debut of their first album in 1998. Over the years, they have produced numerous hits, including No One Knows and Go With the Flow. The band has also garnered eight Grammy nominations in their career so far.

As Queens of the Stone Age remains focused on Homme's health journey, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates and to hold onto their tickets for postponed events.
