Chester Bennington's son Jaime Bennington weighed in on Linkin Park's choice of Emily Armstrong as the band's new lead vocalist through his Instagram stories on September 8. Jaime called out the band and criticized the decision taken. He further hit back at Mike Shinoda, claiming that the decision was just a "betrayal of fans' trust." In a series of screenshots that went viral on Reddit, Jaime could be seen addressing Shinoda, stating:
"Quietly erased my father's life and legacy in real time not only during a band interview meant to clear the air about certain aspects of LINKIN PARK's history and future but during INTERNATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH..."
The reaction from Jaime Bennington came in the context of certain statements given by Shinoda where he addressed the mixed response that the band got after choosing Emily as the lead singer. Shinoda could be seen writing that while he understood where people came from when they found it difficult to accept Emily wholeheartedly, he wouldn't tolerate disrespect.
Emily Armstrong had been getting a mixed response after she joined the band as the lead singer. While many supported her and believed that she deserved a chance, a number of fans claimed that Chester was irreplaceable and questioned Armstrong on several other controversial topics. This included her support of Danny Masterson as well as her association with Scientology.
Everything to know about Jaime Bennington's response to Shinoda after Emily Armstrong became the band's lead vocalist
As mentioned, Jaime Bennington hit back at Mike Shinoda after the latter made some statements about the recent changes in the band. A lot of people didn't take the decision of Emily Armstrong being the band's co-lead vocalist well, and the latest personality to get included in this list was Chester Bennington's son Jaime.
Jaime even spoke about the allegations and questioned Emily's past. In the viral post, he wrote:
"People aren't having a difficult time wrapping their head around the prospect of LINKIN PARK reinventing itself. They are having a hard time wrapping their head around how you hired your friend @emilyarmstrong to replace @chesterbe knowing Emily's history in the church and her history as an ally to @dannymasterson is what it is..."
He further addressed Shinoda and claimed that he would have mentioned him as well in his post, however, the latter had apparently restricted him from establishing any interaction with him. Jaime further claimed that Mike Shinoda didn't bother to consider the impact of hiring Emily Armstrong as an integral part of the band on so many people including Danny Masterson's victims.
According to Jaime, Shinoda broke the trust that fans had in the band, for so many years. He claimed that he believed that Shinoda was going to be a "bigger better person." He further described Shinoda as being "senile and tone deaf."
Emily Armstrong took to social media on September 6 and said that she thought Masterson was a friend when she supported him during his trial. She further added that she had not spoken to him since he was convicted and mentioned that she did not condone any "abuse or violence against women."
