Houston rapper Brad Terrence Jordan aka Scarface was recently seemingly admitted to the intensive care unit. On August 24, the 53-year-old Geto Boys member shared a photo of himself on the hospital bed with several tubes and wires fused to his body. Brad had previously suffered kidney and lung problems.
From the ID card of the medical staff who was seen attending to the rapper, fans noted the rapper might be admitted to one of Houston’s Methodist Hospitals’ ICUs. Brad did not give out much information about the exact reason for which he required medical attention. He only expressed his gratitude in the caption:
"Ouch…Grateful"
Fans and several artists, including Travis Scott, Twista, E-40, Sleepy Brown, Roxanne Shanté, Mannie Fresh, Warren G, DJ Premier, Jadakiss, Lloyd Banks, Ja Rule, KXNG Crooked, Chance the Rapper, Slim Thug, and comedian Cedric the Entertainer, sent recovery wishes for Brad in the comments. Some expressed their concerns for the rapper's health.
Scarface previously had a kidney transplant after going through dialysis
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Scarface told his fans about his kidney failure after he fell prey to the coronavirus. Following the diagnosis he was put on dialysis. After sharing the news in March, the rapper updated everyone on his health again the next month.
While speaking to Willie D on a video call on April 22, 2020, Scarface said he was "glad to be alive". As he was on dialysis during the call with his fellow Geto Boys member, Scarface pointed to his dialysis port, calling it his "new lifeline". Explaining his routine in detail, the rapper said:
"I gotta change my entire diet...I gotta do dialysis four days a week, three hours a day...That's taking all my blood out, cleaning it and putting it back in my body."
Brad Jordan revealed that before being infected with the coronavirus, he had never had any issues with his kidneys.
He revealed he not only fought COVID-19 but also suffered double bilateral pneumonia that affected both of his lungs. He went through kidney failure due to the complications — all of these occurred at his house for three weeks, after which he had to return to the hospital for treatment. But Brad Jordan said he told doctors he did not wish to be put on ventilators, as it almost feels like "dying."
The I See a Man Die rapper spoke about the symptoms of the coronavirus he experienced, including difficulties in sleeping, breathing, and digesting. He said he felt uncomfortable even when he was awake and went through a possible weight loss of 30 pounds. Scarface described the time as the "worst time" of his life, as he said he was "inches away" from death.
In 2021, the Houston rapper had to go back to the hospital again for a kidney transplant. His son Christopher was the donor, who later updated that the surgery was successful.
Amid his recovery from the transplant, Scarface shared a heartfelt message for his son in an Instagram live. He said:
"My son saved my life and I can’t say enough about him…That boy saved my life man. And I love him so much."
Brad called Chris the "best son" one can ever have.
