American singer-songwriter Raul Malo, who is also the lead singer of The Mavericks, was diagnosed with cancer in June 2024. Back then, a video was shared on the band's Instagram feed, in which Malo revealed that "two cancerous spots" in his intestines were found in the colonoscopy and a CAT scan.
Since the revelation, Malo had kept his fans updated about his ongoing treatment. On Wednesday, January 8, the singer confirmed that his surgery, which took place on December 10, was successful. In an Instagram post, Raul Malo revealed that he could not continue the upcoming shows since he was recovering from the surgery. In the video, he said:
"I’m feeling strong, even though I’m in a little bit of discomfort. Like, it’s hard to hold a guitar up to my body. I don’t even know if I could sing."
In the caption of the post, Raul wrote that The Mavericks would not be a part of the Sandy Beaches Cruise this weekend.
Revealing his health updates, Raul added that the doctors had successfully removed the tumor on his liver. He added that he needed four to six weeks of recovery since the surgery, and that would collide with the date of his band's performance on the cruise.
Meanwhile, his fans flooded the comment section with wishes and prayers for his fast recovery.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Raul Malo had a net worth of $10 million. The outlet has further described him as a singer, actor, songwriter, and a record producer.
