The law firm Grubman, Shire, Meiselas & Sacks, which is based in Manhattan, dropped Diddy, legally known as Sean Love Combs. The decision came after Lady Gaga allegedly gave the company an option to either drop Sean or she would leave the firm, as reported by NewsNation.
Notably, Diddy has been a part of the law firm for 20+ years and developed a friendship with attorney Allen Grubman. An insider stated the legal firm reportedly felt forced to decide because of the fear that Gaga's exit might cause similar situations from other clients, including Lil Nas X and Elton John.
The news comes when Sean is already involved in a lot of controversy after his assault video featuring Cassie Ventura went viral last month.
The legal firm has denied the fact that Lady Gaga was linked to their decision to drop Sean. A spokesperson for the company shared a statement with Page Six which reads:
"The decision to part ways with Mr. Combs was proactively made by the partners in the firm a number of months ago as they felt it was the right thing to do."
A source close to Lady Gaga has reportedly claimed that the law firm never discussed with the singer. An insider for Page Six also stated that the legal firm dropped Sean around eight weeks ago because of the allegations that emerged because of the assault video.
Mayor Adams has revoked Diddy's key after the assault video controversy
The rapper has been facing a lot of trouble after CNN got video footage from 2016, where he assaulted Cassie Ventura at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles. Sean was recorded attacking Cassie multiple times and also pulled her to a room at one point.
While the incident led to multiple responses from well-known faces along with several companies breaking their ties with Diddy, Mayor Adams revoked his key to New York City earlier this month.
Adams even sent a letter to Combs on June 4, 2024, criticizing the actions of Sean in the video and showcasing his support towards victims of "domestic and gender-based violence." The letter also reads:
"Our city has worked tirelessly to make sure survivors are heard and seen by our administration."
Apart from this, Howard University also revoked Diddy's degree and removed his name from the documents that included the names of all the "honorary degree recipients" from their institution. The university statement reads that it was a unanimous decision taken by their "Board of Trustees" and continued:
"Mr. Combs' behavior as captured in a recently released video is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University's core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution's highest honor."
The university stated that they would return certain things given to them by Diddy over the years, including the scholarship program of his name, and return his donation of $1 million. They stated they would also end a pledge agreement with his foundation that was decided back in 2023.
