"SALUTE ICON" — DJ Premier and Questlove pay tribute to Jackson 5's Tito Jackson after his death

Jackson 5 singer Tito Jackson passed away on September 15, 2024, at the age of 70. Several people have since paid tribute to the late singer, including American drummer Questlove and record producer DJ Premier.

On Monday, September 16, DJ Premier posted a photo of Jackson on his Instagram feed and wrote:

"RIP TITO JACKSON. My musical childhood is based on one of the ILLest groups: THE JACKSON 5. To know all of their names back in 1970 when I was 4 years old, and their roles in the group has continued to carry the same effect... SALUTE ICON."

Premier further expressed gratitude to the late singer for contributing to his sense of professionalism in the industry. He had also shared an Instagram story with a photo of Tito and his mother, Katherine Jackson, with the 1976 track Show You the Way to Go, playing in the background.

Questlove, too, shared a post on his Instagram feed on September 16. The post had a photo of Tito Jackson with brother Michael Jackson, and the caption read:

"All of the Jackson brothers are heroes to me. I really don’t have the words right now. May the entire Jackson family find comfort & peace In this moment. Thank You Tito. rest in melody."

The news about Tito's demise was confirmed on his official Instagram profile through a post by his sons Taj, Taryll, and TJ.

While the cause of death hasn't been revealed officially, according to a report by Entertainment Tonight, former Jackson family manager Steve Manning believes Tito suffered from a heart attack while traveling from New Mexico to Oklahoma.

Before his demise, the band had several shows lined up in Scotland, England, and California in the summer of this year. For the unversed, the band started off as The Jackson 5 and originally involved Tito, Michael, Marlon, Jermaine, and Jackie.

As reported by PEOPLE, their most recent show took place on September 8 in Surrey, England. They had upcoming shows on October 25 in Atlantic City as well as November 1 in Cincinnati.

Earlier this week, the trio visited a memorial in Munich dedicated to their brother, the iconic Michael Jackson. Tito Jackson even posted about it on social media. Through an Instagram post, he wrote:

"Before our show in Munich, my brothers Jackie, Marlon, and I, visited the beautiful memorial dedicated to our beloved brother, Michael Jackson."

Tito has spoken about his late brother several times in the past. In December 2009, Tito Jackson told The Associated Press that Michael's demise brought the family closer. He further added that it was quite difficult for him to believe, at times, that one of them wasn't there anymore.


Tito Jackson is survived by his mother, Katherine Jackson; his sisters Janet, Rebbie, and La Toya; his brothers Jermaine, Randy, Marlon, and Jackie; and his children Taj, Taryll, and TJ.
