On Sunday, August 4, YG was in a conversation with Adin Ross, where he called out Donald Trump for his response to police brutality. The rapper, also known as Young Gangsta, shed light on the tragic case of Sonya Massey. Massey, a Black woman was reportedly gunned down by Illinois police, last month. Gangsta called out the lack of response from Trump in this matter.
YG's recent opinion on Donald Trump, arrived about 8 years after he released a diss track known as F*** Donald Trump in 2016. In 2020, after Joe Biden won the Presidential elections, the track topped on iTunes.
Talking further about Sonya, YG said,
"She called the police to come protect and serve her and she end up getting shot in the face. What type of s*** is that? That muthaf*cka needs to go under the jail."
In the conversation, the rapper further accused Trump of being racist and mentioned he should be more respectful towards minorities. The artist continued by stating that many of his Black friends had been victims of police brutality at some point in time.
Rapper YG expressed his disappointment with Donald Trump in a recent interview
As mentioned, in the interview with Adin Ross, Young Gangsta shed light on the recent shooting incident involving Sonya Massey and Donald Trump's lack of awareness about it. When Ross claimed that the alleged shooter got charged, the rapper said,
"Yeah but Trump is trying to change that."
In the conversation, however, Gangsta denied getting involved in the debate about Kamala Harris' time as a prosecutor. He instead could be heard saying,
"We talking about police brutality. We not talking about laws back in the day when weed was illegal. We’re talking about police brutality on innocent Black muthaf*ckas who was in the wrong, who didn’t have a gun."
The context behind YG bashing Trump for his lack of response in the shooting matter could be traced to the latter appearing at the National Association of Black Journalists convention last week. Donald Trump was asked if he would give immunity to the officer who allegedly gunned down Sonya. The former President didn't give any clear clarification, and said,
"I don’t know the exact case but I saw something, and it didn’t look good to me. You are talking with the water right?"
Semafor reported that in the convention, Trump further said that there was a difference between being a "bad person and making an innocent mistake." Previously, in May, at a rally in Waukesha, Trump said that "police should get their power back" and should get immunity from being prosecuted.
The much talked about Sonya Massey case included a Black woman who was shot to death after she called 911 for help. CNN reported that Massey had called the police after suspecting "prowlers" in her residence in Springfield. A bodycam footage was also released later that had captured the entire incident.
The officer, 30-year-old Sean Grayson, was indicted on three counts of first-degree murder and one count each of aggravated battery with a firearm and official misconduct, as reported by CNN. According to court documents, Grayson had further entered a not-guilty plea.
More about YG's 2016 diss track F*** Donald Trump
The protest song, also known as FDT, was released as a part of YG's second studio album Still Brazy. The song came out the same year that Donald Trump won the elections, which was back in 2016. The track criticized several of Trump's policies and became very popular in 2020 after Biden's victory.
The song was then being played in several gatherings and many celebrities like John Legend and Chrissy Teigen were seen grooving to the song.
Coming back to the recent interview with YG, it didn't seem like much of his opinion about Trump had changed since 2016.
