British rapper Mathangi "M.I.A." Arulpragasam has publicly announced her endorsement of former President Donald Trump. The announcement in support follows a similar move from Robert F. Kennedy Jr., wherein he announced his decision to suspend his presidential campaign.

Instead, he announced that he would be endorsing Trump. Linking the live stream of Kennedy Jr's announcement, M.I.A. took to X (formerly Twitter) on August 23, 2024, to make clear her political inclinations. She posted about her support for the former President, saying:

"Trump is going to ride America through the most challenging 4 years coming pulling out weed, and RFK will inherit America when God is ready to replant and rebuild it righteously."

The endorsement follows years of M.I.A's vocal criticism of Trump, thus making her latest stance all the more unexpected. The British rapper's latest announcement has elicited varied reactions from social media, ranging from shock to criticism. Some even called her citizenship into question. One person said:

"M.I.A. should’ve stayed missing in action," one user joked.
"And this is why she’s a nobody," another person said.

Many netizens were left confused by her stance and questioned if she even changed her citizenship.

"Serious question: Can M.I.A. even vote? Like did she become an American citizen 😭😭😭😭," one netizen said.
"MIA NOOOOOOOO OMFGGGG," another person said.
"Welp time to remove her from all my Spotify playlists. PS: I should have done it when she was talking dumb about vaccines," another X user said.
"I feel like my own mom just betrayed me," another person commented.

From endorsing Trump to anti-vaccine views, M.I.A.'s controversial opinions

The rapper is no stranger to controversy, having stirred up quite the backlash in the past for her outspoken views, especially her skepticism towards the COVID-19 vaccines.

In October 2022, she likened celebrities who promote COVID-19 vaccines to conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. She stated that they should be held accountable for "lying," tweeting:

“If Alex jones pays for lying shouldn’t every celebrity pushing vaccines pay too?”

However, previously M.I.A. claimed she was "not against" vaccines in April 2020. Her X post from April 2020 read:

On the other hand, in June 2024, she launched Ohmni. The brand offers a plethora of products engineered to act as a shield against electromagnetic waves.

According to the website, there's a "protection poncho" listed for $200 and a $100 "tin foil hat." The items claim to evade Wi-Fi and 5G signals with up to 99.999% efficacy.

Robert F Kennedy Jr., who also shares his anti-vaccine stance, recently suspended his own campaign. He further endorsed Donald Trump instead. During a rally in Glendale, Arizona on August 23, 2024, Kennedy and Trump made headlines.

The duo appeared on stage to the sound of Foo Fighters' My Hero blaring. Notably, the song was not approved by the band. As per The Guardian's August 24 report, the former President promised to release all remaining documents relating to the assassination of Kennedy's uncle, President John F. Kennedy, should he be elected in November.

Rapper M.I.A's endorsement has reignited discussions about her previous controversial statements. While her posts continue to amass reactions from fans and netizens.
