R&B singer Lauryn Hill and her hip-hop group Fugees’ Miseducation Anniversary Tour in the US, which was set to begin on August 9, has reportedly been canceled. According to Variety's August 6 article, the tour dates were nowhere to be seen on Ticketmaster anymore.
Fans who purchased tickets for the shows reportedly received ticket cancellation messages and were notified about subsequent refunds. Live Nation, which was promoting the ticket sales, supposedly sent a notice to ticketholders that read:
"Your event has been canceled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon."
No reason for the abrupt cancellation was mentioned in the notice sent out by Live Nation. Fugees and the singer had announced the dates for the tour in June 2024.
According to the R&B singer’s Instagram post, the tour was supposed to commemorate Lauryn’s 1998 debut solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Fugees’ second studio album The Score, and more.
According to reports, Lauryn and Fugees had previously canceled some of their other promised tour dates twice. Repetition of the same occurrence for a third time has left fans upset and even enraged at the artistes.
"She can’t keep getting away with this", wrote one fan.
"At this point, you just like throwing money away if you buy a ticket to her show", said another.
"People who don’t care enough for goers to never show up on time don’t deserve my dime. So I never even attempted to buy these tickets", one X user commented.
"Not sure how Hill can get people to believe she'll ever perform", wondered another person.
Some fans shared their previous experiences with Lauryn Hill concerts where she was either late to perform or the shows had been entirely canceled.
"I learned my lesson the first time they announced a tour. Bought tickets. Cancelled. Never believing the hype again lol", shared one fan.
"I learned my lesson when she showed up 5 hours late to One Music fest in Atlanta and didn’t perform any of her music. Love her but ima keep my coins", another recounted.
"I think we learned our lesson at least 12 years ago to not even try to plan an outfit for this nonexistent event", wrote another.
Lauryn Hill was previously called out for her constant late appearance on shows
In November 2023, the Ex-Factor singer addressed fans' outrage over her repeated late arrival to her own shows. During one of her Los Angeles concerts, the then-48-year-old yelled to the audience:
"Yo, y'all lucky I make it on this blood ras stage every night."
As the crowd erupted in loud cheers, Lauryn continued, with renewed assertion:
"I don't do it because they let me do it. I do it because I stand here in the name of God and I do it. God is the one who allows me to do it, who surrounded me with family and community when there was no support."
Lauryn Hill added, with tears welling up in her eyes:
"When the album sold so many records, and no one showed up and said, 'Hey, would you like to make another one?' So I went around the world, and I played the same album over and over and over and over again. Because we are survivors, and we're not just survivors, we're thrivers."
In an Instagram post from November of last year, the singer got candid with her fans about suffering from severe "vocal strain".
As the tour dates were postponed the same month, Lauryn Hill shared that she was taking Prednisone to fight her health issues. However, the singer said, longtime consumption of the medicine in large quantities could lead to serious harm. Talking about why the remaining 2023 shows had to be deferred, Lauryn explained:
"In order to prevent any long term negative affect on my voice and my body, I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely."
The first show of the US leg of Lauryn Hill and Fugees' 2024 Miseducation Anniversary Tour was scheduled in Tampa, Florida. Other locations for the following dates included Atlanta, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Dallas, Houston, and Los Angeles.
Notably, the European concert dates, scheduled to kick off in October, are still there on Ticketmaster, despite the US dates being wiped out.
