Selena Gomez recently opened up about her friendship with pop star Taylor Swift. In her cover story interview with Vanity Fair on Monday, September 9, 2024, the Only Murders in the Building actress revealed:

"She (Taylor Swift) is really like a big sister to me."

Gomez explained that she frequently calls the Blank Space singer to discuss the music industry and get her advice on music or friendships in the spotlight. However, more often than not, she finds them gossiping, just like friends do.

The two singers first got to know each other in 2008 when they were both dating a Jonas brother—Selena was seeing Nick Jonas while Taylor was linked to Joe Jonas (Gomez confirmed the same in her interview with KISS FM UK in 2017). The pair have kept in touch since.

"I don't know if I'm ready"- Selena Gomez on releasing new music

In her interview with Vanity Fair, Selena Gomez also discussed recording songs for her new Spanish-language film, Emilia Perez, calling it a "fever dream." The former Disney child star stated she enjoyed recording songs for the movie and added that she could sing Spanish really well. Gomez has previously released several songs in Spanish, including tracks from her 2021 EP Revelación.

When questioned if she has plans to release any new music, she remarked:

"I don’t know if I’m ready, you know? It’s a vulnerable space. Acting has always been my first love. Music is just a hobby that went out of control. Now it is a part of who I am, so I don’t think I’m going anywhere. I’m just not ready yet."

However, the Wizards of Waverly Place actress expressed her love for fellow female artists, revealing she particularly enjoyed Charli XCX's bonus track on Brat, Spring Breakers. She added that she has attended several concerts by her female contemporaries, including Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, and Taylor Swift.

Selena Gomez added that she frequently discusses the drama happening on Vanderpump Rules with Swift. The actress-singer explained that she is currently watching the latest season of the Bravo reality TV show and has seen every episode.

In a 2017 interview with KISS FM UK, Selena Gomez revealed it was "hysterical" that both she and Taylor Swift were dating a Jonas brother simultaneously. She added:

"It was amazing, because she was the girl with the big curly hair and all the bracelets and the cowboy boots. And I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked. It was the best thing we got out of those relationships."

Both singers have spoken highly of each other. Swift told E! News that their friendship is the longest one they've had, adding that they "stuck it out" through the different changes in their respective lives. The Calm Down singer called Swift a "goddess" last December in her birthday post for the 14-time Grammy.

In 2018, Taylor Swift surprised her friends by bringing Selena Gomez on stage to perform a duet during her show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The pair sang Selena's Hands to Myself. Gomez also made a cameo appearance in the music video for Taylor Swift's Bad Blood.

Swift has not publicly reacted to Gomez's comments.
