Selena Gomez cast her vote in the 2024 US Presidential elections before attending the premiere of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place on October 29. The comedy series is a sequel and spin-off of the popular teen Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place, starring Gomez.
Gomez shared a video on social media telling her fans that she's on her way to the premiere. However, she voted for the elections of her way. The clip featured her putting in her vote into the ballot and holding up her "I voted" envelope. The singer was wearing a red dress in the video and was photographed in the same in the premiere later that night (October 29).
Fans took to X to react to Gomez' video, with many alleging her red dress indicated she voted for Republican nominee Donald Trump. The former President's campaign largely features red MAGA hats. An X user wrote:
"She's wearing red so you know her vote!"
"i feel like she supports trump," a user alleged.
"Selena is always on the right side of history," another fan opined.
"she definitely voted for trump," another netizen suggested.
Fans continued to speculate about Gomez's vote and who she might be supporting in the elections.
"Notice she didn’t show who. She’s dark Maga now too. Times are changing bros," another netizen alleged.
"Could the dress color and purse color hint that she’s voting for trump?" an X user wrote.
Some other fans alleged she voted 'blue,' presumably denoting Kamala Harris as the democrats are associated with the blue color. Shortly after voting, Gomez shared an image of herself at the ballot with a blue heart on her Instagram story.
"and she voted blue too. selena the legend you are," a user wrote.
"red dress to vote blue, queen," another fan mentioned.
"And voted blue ikdr," a netizen alleged.
Selena Gomez has not indicated who she has voted for or officially endorsed any candidate in the 2024 elections.
"A lot has changed" - Selena Gomez shares details on the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the sequel to Disney's popular series, Wizards of Waverly Place, premiered on Disney channel on October 29. The series features David Henrie and Selena Gomez reprising their roles from the original as siblings Justin and Alex Russo respectively.
The original series aired on Disney from 2007 to 2012 and revolved around Alex Russo (played by Selena Gomez), a teenage wizard who undertakes training alongside her brother, Justin Russo, to become a successful wizard in the Waverly Place area of New York City.
The plot of the sequel, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is set years after the original series ended and tells us how the Russo family is doing right now. The series tells the story of a young wizard named Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) who visits Justin Russo in search of training. Billie's arrival urges Justin to return to his wizardry days.
In an August 2024 interview with Deadline, Selena Gomez spoke about her return to the franchise and reprising her role as Alex Russo. She said:
“What I would say is now you’ll get a glimpse of where Alex Russo and the Russo family is 17 something years later. A lot has changed but there’s still the heart of what keeps Wizards of Waverly Place alive. I’m excited and I hope people enjoy it."
Selena Gomez's co-star and on-screen brother, David Henrie, also vouched for the project, describing it as something “Selena and he take very seriously." He added that they put "a lot of love" into making the sequel series and fans will sense that when they watch it.
Henrie also addressed rumors of Selena Gomez reportedly being a part of the show for only one episode. The Justin Russo actor confirmed that fans will "see a lot" of Gomez in the show. Henrie appreciated Gomez's talent, and said:
“[Selena Gomez] is in multiple episodes so I’m not sure why people keep saying she’s only in one. She’s amazing as her current self playing Alex. Like the moment before we did our first scene, we had this wonderful quiet moment and it was like we hadn’t missed a beat back in character. Her and I always had great chemistry and great timing and great flow. It didn’t go anywhere. It was right there. It was magic.”
Further, David Henrie added that the makers took the timeline of the original show very seriously. He confirmed that "12 to 15 years" have passed, marking a big gap. The show also addresses the mystery of what happened to Justin and Alex Russo during this gap. There are also "Easter eggs and mysteries" for the "original fan."
The first two episodes of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiered on the Disney Channel on October 29 and is available for streaming on Disney+. Selena Gomez made an appearance as Alex Russo in the pilot episode itself.
