Demi Lovato and Raven-Symoné recently talked about working together on the Disney show Sonny With A Chance on the former's new documentary Child Star. The documentary, which premiered on Hulu on September 17, showcases the lives of child actors who grew up in the spotlight and the various challenges they faced.

During one segment in the documentary, Demi Lovato and Raven-Symoné spoke about working on the Disney original show in 2010. The former said she approached Symoné for the documentary, expressing her interest in working with her as a fan of That's So Raven.

Symoné reminded her that they had worked together on Sonny With A Chance, which Lovato said she didn't remember due to her dissociation. Raven-Symoné starred as Amber Algoode in episode 15 of season 2 of Sonny With A Chance.

In the documentary, Demi Lovato also took responsibility for how difficult she was to work with because of her pain and hurt. Raven-Symoné replied that while Demi Lovato may not have been the nicest person, she understood her behavior, being a child actor herself.

"I mean, you weren't the nicest person. You weren't like, 'Welcome!' You weren't doing that. Being the type of person I am and that I've been in the industry for as long as you, and I understand the glaze over the eyes. I didn't hold it against you. I just was like, ‘Something's going on there,'" Symoné said.

Many applauded Symoné's response on social media, with one person commenting on how she respectfully stated her point of view.

Many agreed with the sentiment, praising the That's So Raven actress for being a real friend and understanding the situation.

"Wow, that’s some real talk! It’s impressive that Raven-Symoné chose to approach the situation with understanding rather than judgment. Sometimes, the best way to handle difficult personalities is with empathy," one person tweeted.
"Raven is such a real friend for sticking around Demi and not judging her because she knew Demi was going through a lot at such a young age but I can’t say the same for other people who ditched her to be friends with more famous people even though Demi was there for them during their lowest moments and y’all know exactly who I’m talking about," another person added.

Others disagreed with people calling Symoné bitter and commended Demi Lovato for taking accountability for her actions.

"Why are few of y’all calling Raven “bitter”? She recalled the time where she met Demi on set during SWAC and she felt something was up yet never held it against them because she understood the pressures being overworked in the limelight as a child. That’s a real friend," one person wrote.
"In the doc literally right before that raven quote, demi says “I remember how difficult I was to work with.” good on her for taking accountability and acknowledging that even though she was in pain for her own reasons, she still hurt others and that’s not okay," another person added.
"Demi was battling drugs and being SA'ed around that time so yeah raven statement is true and helpful. You Stan twt b****es need to shut the f**k up," someone else commented.
"Raven is just being real, she told Demi to her face, I don’t see the problem? Demi was bulimic and on drugs, of course she was unpleasant to be around, she has acknowledged this before," another netizen tweeted.

Demi Lovato and Alyson Stoner reflected on Camp Rock

In another segment of Child Star, Demi Lovato sat down with her Camp Rock co-star Alyson Stoner (who uses they/them pronouns) to reminisce about their time on set. Lovato also apologized to Stoner for her behavior in Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. The movie was the sequel to Camp Rock, released two years after the first one came out in 2008.

Demi Lovato acknowledged the career change she underwent between the two films after starring in her Disney original show Sonny With A Chance in 2009. The singer felt there was a "power dynamic" that led to her exchanging personal connections for success.

"My career exploded, and all of a sudden I was staying at the Four Seasons. There was definitely a power dynamic and a shift in that, when the second movie came, it felt really validating because I had been leveled up, but I was trading connection for success," Demi Lovato said.

Stoner also commented about how they could feel a loss of trust and connection between the two on the set of the second Camp Rock movie. They said the work environment was very challenging, and they had to walk on eggshells around Lovato to avoid a blow-up.

Demi Lovato immediately apologized for her actions, acknowledging that her difficult situation did not give her an excuse for treating her co-stars poorly.

"I know that we both were going through our own stuff, but it still didn't give me an excuse to treat anyone poorly, and so I just want to genuinely, deeply apologize for any stress or any walking on eggshells, any hurt feelings. I'm genuinely so sorry for that. And I look back at that time, and I have profound sadness, 'cause I'm like, 'How many people did I treat poorly?'" Demi Lovato said.

Child Star marked Demi Lovato's directorial debut. It featured celebrities who entered the industry as children, including Drew Barrymore, Christina Ricci, Alyson Stoner, and JoJo Siwa, who shared personal stories about their careers as child stars.
