Victoria Monét's Alright MV referenced Michael Jackson's Thriller and Janet Jackson's Alright
Before Victoria Monét dropped the music video for Alright, she unveiled a teaser titled Jaguar Cinema: The Premiere (Episode 1), bearing a string of references to Michael Jackson's 1983 hit song Thriller. The video starts with MJ entering a cinema theatre and eating popcorn while a movie plays, which Monét mimicked in her teaser trailer.
Alright music video also referenced Janet Jackson's 1990 music video for her song of the same name. Victoria Monét paid homage to Miss Jackson by wearing a black-and-white fedora and zoot suit similar to the outfit the iconic singer wore in her video.
Victoria Monét's Alright was also directed by Dave Meyers, who previously worked with Janet Jackson on her music videos for All for You and Want You. The choreography, orchestrated by Sean Bankhead, also seemingly incorporated some of Jackson's moves into the 2024 video.
The fourth track (Alright) from Monét's debut studio album titled Jaguar II was released on August 25, 2023. In an interview with Rated R&B, the singer elaborated that the song was about "liberation and freedom", adding:
“‘Alright’ is about liberation and freedom at its core! This video is a visual presentation of that sentiment through freedom of movement and fluidity between masculine and feminine energy. It was an honor to work alongside Dave Meyers and Sean Bankhead and this cast on this visual! What a crazy combo!!”
After the album's release, Alright quickly became a fan-favorite as it peaked at No. 13 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart. The other songs from Monét's latest album include On My Mama, Party Girls and Smoke.
