The Weeknd's dominance streak continues. Reports surfaced today, October 14, claiming the singer just broke his own Spotify record. Headlines confirm that Abel Tesfaye is officially the first artist to own 20 records and cross a billion streams on the streaming giant.

The singer-songwriter also set a new Spotify record, generating over 120 million monthly listeners. The Weeknd's streaming numbers seemingly increased after initiating the rollout for his sixth and final studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, which included the release of lead singles Dancing In The Flames and TIMELESS (feat. Playboi Carti).

With an upcoming album and hit singles like Love Me Harder (with Ariana Grande), You Right (with Doja Cat), and Moth To A Flame (with Swedish House Mafia), nearing a billion streams, it's likely that The Weeknd will set new streaming heights in the months to come. The complete list of tracks that have crossed a billion streams include:

  1. Blinding Lights
  2. Starboy
  3. Die For You
  4. The Hills
  5. Heartless
  6. Call Out My Name
  7. I Feel It Coming
  8. Can't Feel My Face
  9. Earned It

The Weeknd is trending on X, with several users discussing the announcement of Abel "breaking records" he previously set. One user dismissed the singer's accomplishment, citing similarities between Tesfaye's discography and "mall music."

More reactions followed, praising Abel's new Spotify record and individuals seemingly comparing The Weeknd's accomplishments and highly acclaimed career to Michael Jackson's peak in the music industry.

"Bro is the new Mj even tho he has that mj typah voice lol," said a fan.
"The closest our generation will get to MJ," said another fan.
"The weekend is the biggest artist out right now." A fan claimed.
"Love him or hate him you gotta admit he's the biggest star out rn," added another.

Many others also acknowledged his popularity, saying that Abel would break more records in the future.

"Spotify definitely will crash when his new album comes out for sure," a fan suggests.
"Lmao Drake wishes he could pull this off," a Weeknd fan chimes in.
"Even crazier when you realize he has another 7 tracks less than 100M away from 1B…" NFR Podcast states.

Drake fans were seen shouting out the OVO CEO, with individuals comparing the two Canadian performers and their industry status in an attempt to prove Drizzy generates more sales.

Some were even referencing The Weeknd's recent beef with Drake during the 2024 rap beef, where both individuals delivered targeted disses toward each other.

"The weeknd has more monthly listeners but sales wise Drake is ahead tho. The weeknd hasn't sold a million 1st week," said a Drake fan.
"Weeknd music gettin' played in all the spots / where boys got a little more pride," a Drake fan quotes a line from 'Family Matters.'
"Drake with 20 [soon]," a Drake fan stated.

Everything we know about The Weeknd's upcoming sixth studio album Hurry Up Tomorrow

On September 3, 2024, Abel uploaded the official teaser trailer for his upcoming sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, marking the end of his After Hours trilogy and will be the final project delivered under his artist moniker.

The video includes a passage recounting Abel's career and personal difficulties, which float across the screen as a dark, menacing soundtrack plays in the background.

"In a place where the seasons never changed, where time ceased to exist. But therein lies the problem. Today has felt like an endless spin. I keep distorting the truth, immune to the dizziness, numb to the nausea. What lies beneath – screams in silence." The Weeknd's statement reads.

Although not much is known regarding the official tracklist for Hurry Up Tomorrow and who Abel intends to feature on his highly anticipated final "The Weeknd" album, both the released lead singles are expected to be included on the project.

Abel Tesfaye is currently in Australia for his ongoing After Hours Til Dawn - Global Stadium Tour, where the Canadian recording artist is set to perform live at the Accor Stadium in Sydney on October 22 and 23.
