Four years after releasing Detroit 2, Big Sean is set to drop his next album on Friday, August 30. He got emotional during an Instagram Live on Monday, August 26, reflecting on the past four years. The Instagram account @balleralert later shared the session.

Big Sean's emotional recount of the events of his recent past attracted a lot of comments about his decision to delay marriage with his long-time girlfriend, Jhené Aiko.

The couple have been dating since 2016 and welcomed their baby into the world in November 2022.

On his Instagram Live, Big Sean also revealed he was diagnosed with COVID last week, which has impacted his work on the upcoming album as well.

Big Sean admitted to having started working on his next album already

Besides his Instagram live session, the Double or Nothing rapper shared an Instagram post announcing that his upcoming album - BETTER ME THAN YOU - will be released on coming Friday, August 30, 2024.

Sean also shared on Instagram Live that he had already started working on his next album, explaining that he had "dozens of songs" that couldn't make it to the BETTER ME THAN YOU tracklist because of him falling sick. One of them features Fantasia, said the rapper.

The rapper also confessed how his COVID diagnosis amidst the upcoming release of his album had him considering the decision to push the dates ahead. A phone call from his mother helped Sean put things in perspective.

"She was giving me them words. And I was just like, look, I can keep working on some sh*t and make it exactly how I wanted. But I'd be pushing it back forever," he said.

Ultimately, Sean chose to have faith in his music and put the album out on Friday. His fans are excited to listen to the tracks.

Big Sean opened up about the reason he hasn't married Jhené yet on Out of Context

On August 2, 2024, Big Sean's podcast with Charlamagne Tha God on iHeartRadio's Out of Context podcast was released. The host discussed a wide range of topics with Sean on the podcast, including his experience with fatherhood, Kendrick Lamar's apology about the leaked diss track - Element, and more.

As the subject of his marriage with girlfriend, Jhené Aiko was brought up, Charlamagne asked the Hall of Fame rapper if the couple had already done "one of those secret industry weddings."

Sean responded to it by saying:

"It's a little personal, you know what I mean? But just like to be real with you, just like any people who have dealt with love, we've had our ups and downs, you know what I'm saying? And I think it's still finding the right navigation through it all."

The 36-year-old then went on to say that marriage symbolized "the best relationship" for him. Noting the high divorce rates of the time, Sean added that the idea of being married appeared to him as "almost a fear-based way of thinking."

The rapper concluded that it wasn't like he would never consider marriage, explaining:

"I would like to, and I don't like putting our personal business out there like that either, but there's a lot of work that needs to be done."

Big Sean shared the news of his son, Noah's birth on Instagram on November 19, 2022, describing him as "Happy, Healthy and everything we could ever ask for and more."

He also attached a carousal of pictures with the post, the first one with his newborn holding his finger, following one of him with Jhené Aiko on the hospital bed.
