Vince Staples took his Lollapalooza 2024 performance to an electrifying new level by inviting a fan on stage for a high-energy rendition of his hit song, Big Fish.

On August 4, 2024, during the latter half of his set at Lollapalooza, Vince Staples invited a young fan named Stefan onto the stage. The Compton artist encouraged Stefan to join him for a high-octane performance of Big Fish, released on May 18, 2017.

After a lighthearted exchange on stage, Staples playfully urged Stefan to sing into the microphone, exclaiming words with a sense of humor, adding an extra layer of excitement to the performance. He said:

"Sing into the mic, you b*tch," Staples said.

Vincent Jamal Staples is an American rapper and singer. He rose to prominence by appearing on Odd Future members' projects: Earl, Journey to the 5th Echelon 2010, and Doris 2013. His major hits include Norf Norf, MAGIC, Blue Suede, ARE YOU WITH THAT?, and Yeah Right.

Lollapalooza is the largest music festival in the world and one of the longest-running in the United States. It is an annual American four-day music festival in Grant Park in Chicago.

When Stefan joined Staples on stage, the rapper asked him to perform Big Fish alongside him. Staples also indicated that if Stefan gave a commendable performance, it would confirm to him that Stefan was not racist:

"You're here to perform. If you do this right, I'm not gonna think you're racist. If you f*ck this up, I'm gonna think you say [expletive] when you go home," Staples said.

Shortly after, Vince Staples took Stefan straight to the camera and asked him if he would say "n*gga" when he went home. The teen boy asserted that he did not. After hearing that, the audience cheered, and the duo started rapping.

"Perform the song. Look at the crowd. Use your mic," Staples added.

The verse that Stefan rapped along with Staples can be read below. While Stefan did most of the rapping, Staples provided significant encouragement, especially when Stefan momentarily forgot the lyrics —

"I was up late night balling / So far from my past misfortune / No sleepin', late nights no eatin' / Gun squeezing, I'm a real Artesian / Ramona, I was round that corner / Still down, I'm a Norf Norf soldier."

Later, Vince Staples asked the team to stop and direct at the audience; Staples asked the audience to give a loud cheer to Stefan for coming forward. He further said —

"Drop the beat. Drop the beat. Make some noise for my [expletive] homie for steppin forward. Good job. What a sweetheart," Staples said.

Right after the event, a user on X posted a tweet suggesting that Staples "punished" them by letting the kid make a "terrible attempt" for the Big Fish. As a response, Vince Staples retweeted it with a caption suggesting that it was his "bad" —

"You right I did… my bad," Staples wrote.

Vince Staples' setlist at Lollapalooza 2024 included — The Beach, Aye! (Free The Homies), Little Homies, Lemonade, Rose Street, Children's Song, Shame On The Devil, Étouffée, The Shining, Magic, When Sparks Fly, Are You With That?, Money On My Mind (Lil' Wayne cover), Government Cheese, Big Fish, Fun!, Norf Norf, Yeah Right, and Black&Blue.
