On Saturday, June 29, Eminem took to Instagram to tease his upcoming single, TOBEY. The song, featuring Babytron and Big Sean, is part of Eminem's twelfth studio album titled The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). Fans were thrilled by the possibility of the singer including a Spider-Man reference in his comeback album and took to the internet to express the same.
One netizen wrote:
"So Spider-Man 4 with Toby? chads"
Eminem further mentioned in the caption that TOBEY would be the second track to be released as part of the mixtape. He also tagged Babtron and Big Sean, alongside spider and goat emojis. Reportedly created by Cole Bennett, the song is expected to drop on July 5.
In a teaser for the upcoming music video, one can see the musician sporting a hocket mask and a chainsaw. It appears similar to his Anger Management tour appearance in 2000, where he also wielded a chainsaw.
Internet users seem to be convinced that the song could be about the Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire, as the rapper shared a 'spider emoji' in his caption. A few fan reactions are given below:
“Eminem will do the credits song for Spider-Man 4 real,” one X user said.
“Tobey Maquire being everyone’s childhood hero is canon,” another social media user stated.
“So won’t the real Spider-Man please stand up, please stand up, please stand up,” another X user noted.
At the time of publishing this article, Tobey Maguire himself had not addressed the rumors of the song being inspired by him. Nonetheless, netizens had a field day with the latest teaser. Other comments read:
“Eminem is a big comic book fan. Since he was a kid,” a fan wrote on X.
“When the music video ends with Tobey Maguire, giving us the announcement of Spider-Man 4 then what?! (I’m delusional, send for help) another netizen said.
“It won’t happen cuz it would be too cool and Hollywood hates cool stuff,” another user responded to the above comment.
More to know about Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady album featuring TOBEY as second single
The Death of Slim Shady was announced in April 2024 during an NFL draft. Eminem hinted that he was going to kill his classic Slim Shady alter ego. Since sharing the same, he dropped the Houdini track on May 31, which managed to climb the Billboard Hot 100 chart’s second spot.
The song was quick to make headlines as well since Em referred to Megan Thee Stallion’s 2020 incident when Tory Lanez shot her in the foot, leaving her injured. In Em’s Houdini track, he sang:
“If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me, would I really have a shot at a feat.”
Through this song, Em alluded to several other artists such as R. Kelly, Dr. Dre, and RuPaul.
