Netizens have reacted to Kanye West giving a shoutout to his longtime adversary, Drake, during an October 2024 concert in China. The two rap titans have shared a love/hate relationship over the past fifteen years in the industry. Ye and Drizzy started as friends and collaborators, but things quickly soured between the two, and this continues to this day.
During the concert, Kanye West thanked Drake for writing a chorus while singing the song Yikes from his eighth studio album, Ye (2018). The song samples work by Black Savage and was written by eight writers, including Drizzy.
This shoutout has stirred up considerable buzz online, especially since Ye had previously sided with Kendrick Lamar during the infamous beef between Drake and K Dot. Fans hopped on to X to share their reaction to Kanye West's apparent change in allegiance. One fan on X wrote:
"so "YO DOT I GOT YOU" was all for nothing?"
Several other netizens expressed their opinions on West's move.
"What happened to getting dot," agreed another.
"He’s only saying this cuz Drake leaked the studio footage on 100 Gigs," quipped a fan on X.
One fan even compared Drake and Kanye with two toxic exes, tweeting:
"Kanye and Drake be acting like toxic ex’s"
"Kanye the most bipolar n***a on the planet man," wrote another fan.
"Kendrick ass in shambles," opined one netizen.
Many fans tagged the move as a last-ditch attempt by West to stay relevant.
"Drake doing everything to stay relevant again," announced an X user.
"Can't take ye seriously no mo," agreed another.
"I can't even think of a Drake line" — Kanye West previously attacked Drizzy, siding with Kendrick Lamar
The infamous beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has been classified as one of the most significant brawls in hip-hop history. Although tensions had been simmering for a long time, J. Cole reignited the flames last year when he released First Person Shooter, calling himself, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake "the big three."
The feud peaked when Drake released Family Matters on April 30, accusing Lamar of domestic violence. Just a few hours later, K Dot responded with Meet The Grahams, in which he charged Drizzy with s*x trafficking and alleged that he fathered a secret child.
The following day, Lamar released Not Like Us, which directly addressed the accusations made in Drake's track. The diss track also accused Drake of p*dophilia and disrespecting rap culture.
On April 21, 2024, Kanye West added his two cents on the raging beef between Drizzy and Kendrick when he released a remix of Lamar, Future, and Metro Boomin's track Like That.
"I can't even think of a Drake line," he rapped, targeting Drizzy.
The Off The Grid rapper also lambasted Drake's record deal with Universal Music, stating that Drake had bartered his music rights for a "little bag" of money.
"Lifetime deal? I feel bad for [you]," he said.
Meanwhile, Ye sided with Kendrick Lamar in the first line of the song itself, rapping:
"Yo Dot, I got you."
The Like That remix first premiered on Justin LaBoy's radio show, The Download. Although LaBoy played only a small part of the song, the entire track was later leaked online.
