“Some say he fainted in the lobby” - Alleged voice note by hotel cleaning staff where Liam Payne died surfaces

English singer Liam Payne tragically died after falling from the balcony of his third-floor room at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 16, 2024. In the wake of his sudden demise, an alleged voice note from one of the hotel’s cleaning ladies has surfaced online.

Originally in Spanish, the alleged 23-second WhatsApp voice note was first shared by lorem ipsum (@altashanta) on the social media platform X which garnered traction online. Its English translation reads:

“Yes, he’s dead. The man, he’s dead. Some say he fainted in the lobby (of the hotel). They brought him back again to his room and he was acting kinda crazy and he jumped. He jumped. He was totally wasted (drugged).”

The hotel cleaning lady, being referred to as Catia, further noted that she seemingly cleaned his room on Wednesday and Liam Payne was allegedly “doing drugs in front of her” and “apologizing for the mess.”

The now-viral original post which soon circulated earned over 10.6 million views at the time of writing, alongside 4,500 reposts, 64,000 likes, and 520 comments.

Exploring the circumstances surrounding Liam Payne’s death

Pop star Liam Payne succumbed after falling from the hotel balcony in the Argentine capital where he was staying. So far, it remains undisclosed whether the incident was an accident or a suicide. However, he was allegedly found dead in the hotel’s interior patio, emergency workers told Reuters.

The capital police confirmed the circumstances surrounding the former One Direction singer’s demise. They issued a statement that revealed that they received a call from the hotel staff about an “aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol.”

The news outlet also acquired an audio from the Buenos Aires security ministry which was a record of a phone call from a hotel worker who requested immediate assistance with an inebriated guest.

"When he is conscious, he is destroying the entire room and we need you to send someone," the hotel employee stated.

The hotel’s manager told reporters that he heard a loud noise behind the property and later when the police arrived, they discovered the body of the singer. Thereafter, the corpse was moved to a morgue by first responders, as per reports.

Notably, the 31-year-old was in Argentina to attend the Buenos Aires leg of his former bandmate Niall Horan’s Latin American tour. He was at the October 2 concert and later shared videos as well as with their fans on social media.

On the day of his demise, Liam Payne even took to Snapchat and posted about his ongoing trip to Argentina calling it a “lovely day.” He shared how he was looking forward to going back home to meet his dog, even though he was enjoying riding horses and playing polo in Argentina.

Payne earlier opened up about his mental health struggles and alcohol and prescription drug addiction in June 2021. At the time he said he used them to deal with the pressures of fame and even admitted to having "suicidal" thoughts.

He is survived by his 7-year-old son Bear whom he shared with his ex-girlfriend and British singer, and TV personality Cheryl. He was dating influencer Kate Cassidy who was at Buenos Aires until October 14.
