Britney Spears took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify that she was not disappointed with Halsey’s Lucky music video on July 27, 2024. Halsey recently released a song inspired by Spears' 2000s song under the same name, as well as Monica’s Angel of Mine.
However, previously in a now-deleted X post, Britney Spears expressed that she was “very upset about the Halsey video.” She wrote:
“I feel harassed, violated and bullied. I didn’t know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all.”
Britney Spears went on to explain that she deactivated her Instagram account because she was battling certain health problems. She also added:
“I’m speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter. It feels illegal and down right cruel.”
However, the Toxic singer went on to delete the post and clarified in another X post on July 27, 2024. The post read:
“Fake news!!! That was not me on my phone!!! I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it !!!”
On the other hand, netizens did not believe that the deleted X post was not shared by Spears herself. Responding to her latest statement, some comments online read:
“sis. Idk what to say,” another person commented.
“Idk what this is related to and I’m too afraid to ask,” an X user said.
In the Lucky song, Halsey juxtaposed how lonely fame can feel despite it being her dream to be a pop star. She also discussed the health problems one faces when they are a celebrity. Reacting to Spears taking back her alleged X post, other comments read:
“You could have just said your twitter account was hacked,” another X user said.
“And you keep on lying,” another person said.
“Or maybe you deleted bc you painted yourself as a victim and attacked Halsey when it wasn’t even about you,” one person wrote.
In the Lucky music video, Halsey donned a crystal bodysuit similar to Spear’s Toxic music video outfit. Other reactions to Spears’ statement read:
“Quick question. Who aside from you has legal access to your social media account,” another netizen said.
“Maybe take some accountability instead of lying and saying it was not u,” another X user said.
Halsey takes to X to address Britney Spears' latest statement
After fans began questioning the Castle singer whether she had gotten permission from Britney Spears to release the Lucky music video, Halsey clarified that she had. While responding to Spears’ clarifying statement after the deleted post about the song, Halsey said:
“and I love Britney!!!! I always have and always will you were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me everyday.”
In the Lucky song, Halsey also referred to Britney Spears shaving her head. The song is expected to be part of Halsey’s upcoming fifth studio album.
