On Friday, January 3, Canadian rapper Drake released Fighting Irish freestyle on YouTube. While the track was soon removed from the platform, it left netizens wondering if it was aimed at any particular individual. Shortly after that, on the same day, he also shared a photo of himself in the Bahamas on his Instagram Story.
While there was no caption with the photo, according to an article by Hot New Hip Hop dated January 3, Drake intentionally posted a photo with a tropical vibe to it, to recall the lifestyle he referred to in his 2024 track Bahamas Promises. Furthermore, fans seemed to speculate that the rapper was unbothered by the drama that unfolded after Fighting Irish was released. In the track, he rapped:
"I guess now you boys gotta abandon your summer tradition/ Cold shoulders I gave in the Hamptons, it come with the distance."
The outlet further reported that according to several fans, the aforementioned lyrics were targeted at Michael Rubin and his annual White Out parties. Meanwhile, netizens have reacted to the Instagram photo shared by the rapper. A user (@goinschitz) wrote on X:
"Waist thicker... lips more plump.... someone spoke BBL Drizzy into experience."
Another user tweeted:
"Drake is simply the greatest of all time."
"My unbothered goat no one will ever make me hate him," wrote a fan.
"That’s my [goat] right there," declared another one.
Other fans highlighted Drizzy's style and complimented him while comparing him to Kendrick Lamar. A user tweeted:
"Kendrick doesn’t have this much aura man."
"Best dressed rapper go debate wit ya mama," commented a fan.
"I ain’t gonna lie this fit is fruity af... Absolute hit maker though so we’ll allow it," mentioned a netizen.
Fans speculate that Drake made references to basketball player LeBron James in Fighting Irish
The latest track by the Canadian rapper, which eventually got removed from YouTube, was apparently referring to the sensational feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, as per speculations made by fans. In the track, Drizzy could be heard rapping:
"Analyzin’ behavioral patterns is somewhat suspicious/ N****s was never happy for me when I run up the digits/ Or when I’m breakin’ world records still, as I guzzle a Guinness/ Or when I get my fifth Maybach ’cause the colour is different."
Elsewhere in the track, Drake rapped about trading watches with someone. Fans focused on this part and speculated that the rapper was talking about LeBron James, who Drizzy reportedly has a tattoo of. James seemingly extended support to Kendrick Lamar during the rap beef, as he attended Lamar's Juneteenth concert and was also seen rapping along with his track tv off on November 29, 2024.
In his latest track, Drizzy rapped:
"'Member we tradin' watches? I gave you that Arabic dial, you gave me a numbered edition/ You would even check up on my son like a pediatrician."
In a January 4 article by Complex, it has also been revealed that the title of the track, Fighting Irish, was actually the name of the basketball team that James played for when he was at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio.
It is, however, yet to be confirmed as to who the track was aimed at.
